Question Steering Wheel Power Issue! HELP

Hey Guys,

So I installed my Strut Bar today by Racingline. I didn't tighten it all the way yet, but it is awesome! Ironically...My steering wheel power mode when I get in the car or out..and when I push the button up or down..seems to get stuck. It also makes a weird noise like when something turns and keeps turning and won't stop. It definitely is stuck and I have never had an issue before until I Installed the strut bar. Could this be a coincidence or is there a way to fix this?

Thank You,
Maxi

The motor to lift/lower the steering wheel is something that a few people have reported breaking. Doesn't happen often, but a few of us have actually disabled the auto up/down feature because of the fact that the little motor in there isn't very reliable. I'm guessing that's what's going on.

Can't think of any way that could possibly be related to your install though.

Actually Rafik I think it's a different thing that he's describing. See if that link helps maximaguido.

I'd be pissed if that motor was going out. Does it move at all? I'd try to get it to the position you want, and then disable it. Sorry you're frustrated. Let us know what you find out.

Yeah..It gets stuck...And it makes this damn mechanical noise likes A Robot who keeps trying to turn his head but cant..Idk if thats a good analogy..but It keeps reacting back. I don't know how to turn off this feature..And yeah I got the steering wheel where I want it..I just want to go outside and fix it now b4 the morning.

Oh I did drop this push up pin (the black fastener clip) into a hole by my windshield..and I lost it through this area where It went to somewhere. I hope that wasn't the issue..or I would be very angry!

So what I'm talking about disabling is the automatic up/down when the car is turned on or off. For me, I turned it off with the settings in the navigation. It was under the "comfort" menu I believe. If you don't have the nav, then I'm not completely sure. And really, if the motor's already busted, be glad that it broke while it was in the right position. If it hadn't, you'd be stuck with it sticking up and probably have no choice but to go get it fixed.

Yeah..I guess I could only have so much bad luck right? Haha. It still works..but not in the way that I would like it to work. It grinds up..and goes down alright. Thank You..Yes, I went outside before and remember seeing it in the Comfort/Convenience. I turned it off after placing the wheel where I wanted it. This should of been on the recall list..Maybe I will pursue a Class Action Suit being that I am going into the field of Law. If I have the time, that is lol.

Thank You for sticking through this with me..I was about to throw my laptop and do some mailbox smashing!!!

You'll be alright. I'm still under warranty, so I've been debating between leaving the auto up/down on and TRYING to get the motor to fail (so it could be replaced through warranty) or just turning it off and using it sparingly. Either way it sucks when **** breaks. Good luck bro.

Thanks Man..I decided to turn the steering off..and I'm going to let it rock for now. Although there is a weird noise now coming from somewhere in the car when the car first starts up and I put it into reverse. I already put thousands of dollars into the car..So I feel obligated to keep the car. However, if I experience one more issue with this car..I will be on my way to a new ride.

My patience can only go so far.

Thank You Dan..That is definitely true. Man I wish I could figure out this sound now..If I go in reverse slowly it makes like this rubbing noise. I wish I could figure this out..would it be wise to take it to Good Year?

Have the same issue. I found the part online for like 125 but haven't gotten around to it. I had a buy of mine that works at ford pull the all data instructions and it looks like a piece of cake. Let me see if I can find them and I can email them to you. Beats paying the dealership $800 to fix it.

Thank You. I will private message you my email. I have been recently looking to switch this car and get a BMW 335xi/i..or the 370z Nismo. I haven't decided yet because I do love this car minus some of the issues I have from time to time.

My wife purchased a brand new 335is in July and it had its fair share of problems already.....Several with the comfort access feature......Wishn' we would have kept the virtually problem free G35 now.

Dude, Infiniti g all the way, I get more people trading 328s and 335s, for Gs all the time. I just sold a 2013 sedan and they traded in a 2013 335 for it.

I am not arguing that every car has problems..Maybe I am just a little frustrated. The Infiniti's are nice too. Idk..I have to just think it through and figure out what I want to do. I love the body of the BMW though. I do love our Maximas. I was originally going to get a 335xi sedan..But I decided to go with the Maxima because it has a mean look to it.

I'd stay away from BMW's because of their known electronics issues...

Yeah, getting out isn't the issue. Having this feature working for 6'2" me is all about getting into the car, even more so since lowering it.
