Wind Noise: Driver Side

Whats up everyone...

I bought a CPO 2010 maxima last month for those who don't know. So I was driving on the highway and my music wasn't turned up very loud and I heard noise as if the window was slightly open everyone should know what I mean.

So I put the window button up to see if it wasn't up all the way however it was. I put the window down and all the way back up still heard the noise.

I noticed this noise goes away under 35mph but after that its annoying. I took it to the dealership the mechanic reset the windows and did something with the trim or so he said.

After that the noise was still not gone so now im dropping the car off at the dealership today and they're giving me a loaner.

Has anyone had or heard of this issue with theirs??

Sounds to me like something just was wrong with whoever assembled or checked the door's fit. There should some adjustments that can be made for how the door is aligned, and just fixing the seal is kind of the lazy fix IMO. Hopefully they'll spend a little time and look at it closely and get you fixed up.

Yes, It has happened to others and to myself. Not much to really do about it..between this and my 08 Accord v6..they both had the same problem. Not to be downer or anything, but give it a few months and soon you'll have some rattling in the side pockets or the rear window or trunk, hell maybe both will start making some noise. Even my seat belt adjuster makes this slight banging noise that drives me crazy. I have come to realize that music is the only solution for these issues. It literally kills me to hear rattling, clunk clunk, bang bang..non stop with no music on.

As for the dealership..I took in to get the rattles fixed..now my radio goes in and out with static at times (Never happened until after they "fixed" these rattles). Also, they haven't fixed the rattles at all. And I had to wait 5 hours ..so they could tell me they fixed it the first time, couldn't find it the second time, and then lastly say nothing is wrong with the vehicle.

Man I feel like a troll posting on all these opening posts hahaha, but I don't use facebook and I have most of these issues that many of you guys are experiencing..Good luck and let me know what the dealership says!

I have the same problem on a 2012. Took it in last week. They replaced the entire door seal. That did not fix the problem. I hate my dealer. Every time I go in for anything (oil change or any other issue) they always get dirty hand prints everywhere. The outside is bad enough but they get them inside as well. I complained last time and it didn't help. I guess it's time to find a new dealer.

I had the same problem with my 2011. It turned out to be the rear drivers door was not fully closed and the auto body guy I took it to told me the door wasn't aligned right. If you ran your hand from the rear quarter panel to the door you felt a small bump and he got one of his guys to fix it in 30 seconds. Problem solved and no more wind noise comming in the car while windows ae closed. The only problem is my auto body guy told me every panel is completely off and not aligned right. I guess Nissan is saving on final inspectors in their plant. And I brought it up to the stealership and the told me that any kind of alignments whether it was the noisy sunroof I had to the gaps in the body to the wheels was not warrantee work and I would have to pay out of pocket. Does anyone know if they are correct or if they are just trying to get 110.00 an hour from me?

Okay so im pretty mad at this situation right now. I dropped off the car and the dealership gave me a loaner.

Long story short after two days the dealership calls me back tells me the car is fixed. Upon arriving I was told they changed the "weatherstrip" on the driver side which was not sealing properly before?? Also he mentioned they test drove it and the issue was gone.

I was pleased with the service and was glad the issue had been fixed.... but wait as soon as I got on the highway the wind noise was still there and didn't change at all. So now I don't know if I want to go back to that dealership or go to a different one.

I'd be p!ssed too. Unfortunately if you want this fixed correctly it's gonna cost you your time and your effort. In the end you'll be left feeling that this was something the dealership should have been able to pick up on, after all they are the "professionals."

I would have turned around, brought it right back to them and took the tech. who worked on your car (or the manager) for my own test drive. Reproduced the problem right there in front of them. Unless you have direct proof or documentation, it's your word against theirs.

Tell them you're gonna write a review online about their professionalism, quality of service, and customer appreciation in a few weeks.

^ That was pretty funny though. Yes, the problem will never be fixed unless you keep going in and in with the dealership. They are scum when it comes to issues with the cars. Its like they are dying to be your bestfriend when selling the car, but as soon as its bought..they are like oh its not our problem..blah blah blah.

I've took my 2012 in two times for the drivers door wind noise. They have replaced both seals. Still have the same problem.

Did you have them look at the door alignment? I think someone above suggested that.

Maybe test drive a similar year/model car and see if it also occurs in that car as well. If so it could simply be poor design.

Did you say that sometimes it does not occur? Or does is it constantly there?

Anyone have any luck getting this fixed. My dealer doesn't have a body shop. When I mention maybe door needs aligned they just ignore me. Anyone have any experience with dealers in Knoxville TN?

My '09 Max is super quiet. My '11 Murano, however, has wind noise on the right side. Still looking for the source of the noise and have hopes to find it soon.

Finally got mine fixed... Turned out that the driver side mirror had something where it was sealed wrong or something. They changed the driver side mirror and wallah no more noise! Thank god.

Sounds like mine
Just like passenger seat rattle I have just grow to ignore it
Sorry, but going to the dealer to me is a waste of time.
Ex. My rear brake made noise and they said all Maximas do that. Well they are correct - this is my 4th maxima and they all did the same.

I will however give them a hard time- who want to drive around in a 37k car and have the breaks sweek!

Finally took my 12 Maxima SV to a different dealer today. It didn't take them long at all to look at the seal and said it needed replaced. I told them both seals had been replaced at another dealer. They said the seal was twisted. I can't tell by looking. Hopefully this will fix it.

Finally got this issue fixed. The new seal worked this time. This dealer said that when the other dealer replaced the seal the first time that it had a slight twist in it. I couldn't tell by looking myself. At this point i don't care how they fixed it. I'm just glad it's fixed.

I just purchased a 2010 SV and the drivers side rear window is the culprit in mine. Unnoticeable until I hit 40-45, but after that it reminds me of an old Jeep Wrangler. Haven't taken it to the body shop to check alignment, but I can't feel and/or see that it is improperly aligned.

Anyone experiencing this in the rear windows? I'm going to have a friend ride in the back this weekend at highway speeds to see if they can determine exactly where it is coming from.

Have a good weekend, folks!

Mine just started doing this. After reading all the posts I think it could be the driver side mirror. But the seal could also be a possibility. Gonna have the stealership take a look at it. Might as well use the warranty...

I went thru this, first they replaced the seals and didn't help, then replaced the drivers mirror and noise is gone. I think it was some defect with select maximas, Altimas and I think muranos/ pathfinders....also no charge

Are you guys noticing this noise up front or in the rear? Drivers side only? Mine is coming from somewhere in the rear.

If its coming from the rear I'd say its a seal or door out of alignment. Stupid question but is your window going completely up

Yes, it's all the way up.

I'll check the seals and see if I can't notice anything. Hopefully this weekend I can pinpoint specifically where it's coming from with the help of a friend.

Mine is out of warranty by a few months...so I know the dealer won't do anything.

worked on a 2010 last month doing the same thing from the left rear. Sat in the back with a mechanics stethoscope and found the spot it was letting the air in. The weather strip was flattened out somewhat. There was a small gap. Got the new weather strip and the car was almost silent inside. Alignments def was not the issue with this one. If alignment was the issue I would think it would be a very pronounced wind noise at all speeds progressively getting worse. Good luck to all of you other guys out there. I hope mine doesn't start doing that nonsense. At least there are other people to bounce ideas off of. This forum is great!

Thanks for the help!

Did you replace the stripping on the door or on the door jam, or both? Where exactly, if you recall, was it flattened out?

I do agree...this forum is great!

Drove this weekend at highway speeds with my friend in the back and it's the small window on the driver's side. The weather stripping appears to be fully intact and no different than the passenger side (that doesn't make any noise).

From the DEAD!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I jus replaced my POS factory loud *** tires with some Mich Premiere A/S..
Now I can hear other things, one of the things i hear from my driver side door is wind noise.

Has anyone else had any more problems and those who had this fixed, is it still fixed? My car is a 2011 CPO.. SO I am wondering if this is covered.

I had the drivers side wind noise on my 2010, the deslership replaced the mirror assembly and that fixed the issue for me. A lot of trial I remember from the dealerships part replacing different weather stripping before replacing the whole mirror assembly to fix the issue

Here's the R/O

I'm willing to bet the noise everyone hears is from the side mirror. I know the drivers side does it and I bet the passenger side does it also but you cannot hear it. The noise is coming from the gap between the side mirror and where it mounts to the car. Drive you car at about 40 mph along a quiet stretch of road with your window down and listen for the noise. Put your hand in that gap while you are driving and the noise will probably stop.

I have gotten used to it so it does not bother me much. Funny thing is my 4th gen had the same issue and I could never figure it out. I think it's a common issue with many side mirrors and it is just the way they are designed.

Yes sortve, I had a few years of powertrain left, but when I purchased this car it came with a "fix all" 90 day warranty when I first purchased it so it was covered with out charge as this issued occursd within the first 90 days. If this was me and u have a close type relationship with your dealers service department id try and bring it in, although i don't believe it's a tsb its a known issue with select Nissans, maybe u can persuade them to help

yeah, it can't hurt to ask. I am taking my 07' Maxima in Monday for the chain tensioner guide. My service rep knew the problem just by explaining it to him...
