2010 Nissan Maxima SV Trunk Problem

The other day while trying to close the trunk, it would not latch close. after playing with the buttons ex. the trunk finaly latched closed. However now the trunk light stays on. The trunk can not be opened by pushing the button on the trunk with the fob. in pocket. However the inside release works and the button on the fob works.. The light will not go off even though the trunk is closed. I am not sure of the Solution to this trunk problem.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is order.

i had something similar happen to me. i swung the trunk closed and it bounced back up a little. i went to push it closed and it would not latch. after examining the rubberized coating that is on the latch pieces I saw a piece that was bunched up so i just trimmed it off with a small blade. it closed then for me, but for some reason the trunk light was on even when it was shut. randomly a couple days later the trunk light problem went away and hasn't come back.

a few weeks later it jammed again though and it looked like the latch was actually very slightly bent so i bent it back in place - everything works fine now and has since. i think this happens from slamming your trunk shut a little too hard, I close it much softer now.

im sure the dealer can fix it under warranty; just something up with the mechanism that is latching and the sensor that detects that its closed.

Does your trunk just pop open or open up all the way? Seems like the trunk is hard to open too..

The 7th gen Maxima trunk lid unlocks from fob or from pushing the button near the right side of the lid or from the dashboard switch. In all three cases, the unlocked lid simply rises an inch or less. But the lid is carefully counterbalanced on both sides so that it is easy to lift.

Maximas equipped with the Sport option have trunk lid springs enhanced because of the extra weight of the spoiler. Those who add the spoiler later without replacing the trunk lid springs probably have a heavier lift.
