Voice Turn by Turn Navigation via Phone

So I came across a really nice finding that I'm not sure if it has been posted before, so thought I'd share it here.

I was able to run voice turn by turn navigation over bluetooth from my iPhone. I don't have bluetooth audio streaming or built-in nav.

All you have to do is download Google Maps, and connect your phone via bluetooth. The Audio will play over the speakers in the car. The car treats the audio as a phone call. I used it on the iPhone 5, but I think it should be the same for all other iPhones.

Specially since the voice says the street name, this is the closest thing I have to a built in nav lol.

If this is a repeat thread, then please delete it lol.

Works with my 4S as well. I think it will only work with iPhones running iOS6 or greater.

I'm using Waze. I like the fact that other users report what they see. (police, car on shoulder, or traffic). It is not perfect, but it could be worth a try... I use the aux input and pandora or xm sirius app, and the voice prompts work well. I have the S.

yes it will.

It's the standard Navigation of google maps. So if you have google maps Navigation you've got this. Just connect the bluetooth and you're good.

This does not work for me. I have a motorola bionic and I use the built-in google Navigation for gps. My phone pairs to the car automatically when I star the car. The voice promts for gps still come out of the phone.

I have a 4s and I have not noticed that the bluetooth does anything but take calls, although I do not have the Google maps. I do however have Navigon and I can plug my phone into the USB in the console and be listening to Pandora or other music on the phone and it will interrupt the music and tell me the direction. Pretty cool. With the Google maps can you be listening to a cd or radio and it interrupt the music also??

my Galaxy S2 does it...whilst connected to bluetooth audio, it'll pipe up "turn left in one mile" without musical interruption.

However, my car has an aftermarket radio

just curious - I know some 2011+ Maximas have stereos that allow audio streaming via Bluetooth. could it be that the same ones allow turn by turn prompts??

i have a 2010 and an android device and, like i said, it does not work for me. is there a setting within the car's Bluetooth, phone's Bluetooth, or Google maps that accomplishes this?

I don't think it's in the car settings. I've used a couple iPhones with it, and all you do is pair the phone and the car. Mines a 2011 with the navigation stereo, and I never plug a cord into my phone. Do it all through Bluetooth. And when I have the stereo on Bluetooth streaming, it basically mimics the exact sounds that the phone would make if it weren't connected via Bluetooth. In normal circumstances if I were listening to music and using navigation, the phone would attenuate the music while giving voice directions, and then the music would turn back up. That's a function of the phone. Hell, when I'm connected via Bluetooth to the car stereo even the tiny clicks from pushing each button while typing things comes through the stereo. And when I hit the lock button and it makes that click, it's coming through the stereo also.

I have a 2012 SV Prem. no tech/no nav. How do I pair the phone to the car to use the phone functions (ie make and receive calls) through car? I know I can't stream music via Bluetooth, but can I use the phone via Bluetooth? Everything I find to connect is for nav systems. I have an iPhone 4S with the latest software.
