Cellphone Mount
Cellphone Mount
I was looking to get the ProClip car mount and phone holder for my iPhone 5 with Otterbox Defender case. I did a quick search for it on Amazon and came across this instead:

Looks like a great idea since I never use the CD player - iTunes and Pandora are my DJ. At 25 bucks, it's a lot cheaper than the ProClip solution. Plus, Amazon still has the Amazon Prime 30-day trial going on. The Prime membership offers free 2-day shipping. Mine will be delivered tomorrow. I'll post back with pics and thoughts.

Nice find! Based on the video reviews I just watched, the product looks solid and seems like it would work well. I would've liked maybe a third stabilizer leg but after tightening the wedge, it seems to hold firmly. My current mount (which was designed strictly for my model phone) is a suction type which after a while will fall if I forget to re-suction it. Quite annoying. Looking forward to your review. Do you have an aftermarket receiver or stock?
I have the stock system - no plans to upgrade. I may do the DVD mod but Apple doesn't make the composite video cable for the iPhone 5's lightning connector. I don't want to she'll out another 30 bucks for the lightning-to-30 pin adapter.
I'll respond back here when I get the mount - hopefully at lunch.

I have something similar to that for my Galaxy 3. I mounted it on the center of my windshield and it works amazing. 360 rotation, has this feature where if you get a phone call or a text message the lights flash up red. Although, when I have my music bumping..its more like I am at a rave. The holder is very sturdy and the locking clip works amazing. I haven't had any problems. I use it for my phone navigation. This product is almost similar..but not the one I bought..I am sure it does the same thing though.

Took a road trip up to King of Prussia today with the new mount. It worked great keeping my iPhone stable in both portrait and landscape mode. There was little to no obstruction of any of the buttons. It sits at a good viewing angle for me as well.
The only issue that I had was that the little removable support at the bottom didn't leave enough room to get the lightning cable through thr opening due to the bulk of the Otterbox Defender case. No worries though - I just removed it and it actually worked out better since I'm able to center the phone. They make another mount that's very similar that I didn't see until I ordered mine. It's about 10 bucks cheaper and the main difference that I saw was that the removable support was changed to two separate "elbows" that can be moved out of the way if the support isn't needed.
All in all, it's a great device and I'm very pleased with it so far. If I didn't have the front loading CD player, ProClip would have gotten my 100 bucks. As it stands, this Mountek is even better than the ProClip for those that don't use their CD player.

Here's the other mount:

How about a pic of it installed in the car?

This looks like a winner to me as well. If I need a new mount, I'll definitely consider this (but I like how my Galaxy SII mount has a window space so I can film while driving if I have t
)
Had I seen the second one before I ordered, I would have bought it instead. Same device - 10 bucks cheaper. However, Amazon is kind enough to make the decision for you - they don't have the second one in stock anymore and don't know if they'll be getting any in.
Yes, it's very secure over bumps (I hit a couple multiple times a day) and through hard acceleration. There's a little shake but nothing wiggles loose. Definitely worth the $25 without question.
I've had this mount for about 2 months (the one shown in OP's photos).
I love it! It feels more solid/heavy duty than I thought it would be. The mount does not come loose under any circumstances. My phone is a motorola bionic. The mount does shake quite a bit as I have a vibration in my tires. The fact that the mount shakes too should tell you how secure the mount is in the CD slot.
I, too took off the bottom clip so that I could center the phone in the mount and get my charger in on the side. The one thing that can be annoying is the volume down button is pressed sometimes when I first put the phone in the mount. This is annoying because I mostly use the mount when I am using phone GPS to navigate. When the volume is off, I could miss a turn!
I leave the mount in all the time (unless I need to play a CD obv.) and have had no issues. When I do take it out, I notice that the small felt strips in the CD slot are permenantly depressed where the expanding tabs hold the mount in place. Not an issue for me but if someone has OCD, it might affect them.
EDIT: Before I bought this mount, I was also considering a Panavise flex mount installed in the passenger footwell on the left side and attaching their universal phone/gps mount to that. It was going to be more expensive, but could be an option if someone wants their phone or gps at shifter/armrest level instead of high on the dash. depends what you are using your phone for, i suppose.
the photo at the following link is what I was thinking of:

You're welcome PSU. This will only apply to those with the iPhone 5 but I also bought an Amazon version of the 8-pin lightning cable. I didn't want the white one looking out of place and Amazon had one for 15 bucks. Works like a champ! Just another FYI...
I wanna be just like you when I grow up! Haha
Here's the one I bought:
Here are some more that I found just now looking for the link to mine - wish they were there before I bought mine:

Out of curiosity, is anyone planning to leave their devices bracketed 24/7 but remove the entire unit (Mountek nGroove + Device still stuck together) when leaving the car unattended? If so, is it a cumbersome process each time?
For example, I am thinking of getting the Mountek nGroove AND a separate device (e.g. used Galaxy Note) strictly for Maps purposes. I would then remove the entire unit and place it in the glove compartment or in the storage beneath the elbow rest. Ideally, I would love to permanently leave the Galaxy Note there on a 24/7 basis, but that would introduce crime/theft issues.

Considering what you would want to do I think it could become a cumbersome process to remove the unit with whatever is in it and put in the glovebox because the one part you need to tighten to get it firmly set in there. Also I wonder if it would even fit in either of those two places...
Mountek is supposedly coming out with a version that is Tablet-compatible (nGroove 6000). Of course, it would look best if the Tablet were mounted horizontally (similar to how it's shown in T200's picture above).
If a tablet version were to come out with the larger brackets (to accommodate wider devices), do you think our Maximas will even have the clearance for anything larger than a smartphone? It seems as if anything larger would start to block or touch the Volume and Tune *****.
If there is enough clearance and the Tablet-version comes out, I will most likely look into either the Google Nexus 7 or one of the Samsung Galaxy Note I (which has a 5.3" screensize) or the Galaxy Note II (which has a slightly larger 5.5" screensize) -- depending on the device's dimensions vs. actual space clearance.

Any thoughts on your Mountek thus far? I assume no news is good news.
I will probably order mine tomorrow as well. No point in waiting for the phablet-compatible version anyways due to lack of space between the dimensions vs. buttons/*****.

I received mine a couple days ago as well. I like it a lot. It has a little more jiggle and bounce during driving than I hoped for, but that's not to say that the mount and device are not secure. Previously I had a mount that gripped my iPhone in the same manner as this mountek, but it was attached to a base that fit into a cup holder. That one was very stable, but after several years it broke. I prefer the viewing angle of this new mount by a long shot. I think the position of our cd slot is perfect for this mountek holder. I would certainly recommend it. Thank you to the person who brought this device holder up for all of us to see!
