Fogs as Daytime Running Lights

Fog lights used as DRL
I have a US Maxima I imported from the states. I have to put daytime running lights on it and don't really wast to add on aftermarket lights. I would like to use the fog lights as the DRL's, coming on when the car starts...shutting off when the lights are activated at night ( has the auto on lights). From what I see, I know I cam disconnect the fogs and wire them in with a relay to work as the DRL...but what I would like to know/do is still maintain their use at night, having them work with the regular headlights etc.....any ideas out there???????

Not even sure if this is possible

Have you bothered to...
SEARCH?

Also, here is how I would see it:
Power source that is only powered when engine is on -> relay A -> relay B -> wire spliced (NOT CUT) into the fog lights.

Relay A will receive power from the battery always, and will allow electricity to pass only when the car is started. This, this will cause power to go to the fog lights when your engine is on. In this mode, the fog light switch on the headlight switch stalk will obviously do nothing.
Relay B will receiver power only when the headlights are on, thus cutting power to the foglights from relay A, leaving only the OEM wires to power it. When your headlights are on, since the relay A is cut off, this leaves your lights to be fully in control by the fog light switch stalk only.

"Normal" relays have 4 pins, some have 5. You are going to need one of each. Relay A will be 4pin, relay B will be 5 pin.

Yes, I did bother to search, but there is limited/no information on integrating the fogs with DRL's. There are several for fog lights that are independent and shut off completely when the lights come on.

The stalk on the dash is a multiplex matrix system that connects directly to the BCM. The BCM processes the status of all switches and then determines through logic IF the fog lights are permitted to be on. If so, a signal is sent over the CAN bus to the IPDM under the hood. The IPDM under the hood is where the fog light relay is.

Now the above information is what I received from a Tech, who knows his stuff but could not say exactly how it could be done to the 7th Generation. A specific module was suggested but in searching the web there does not appear anything for the 7th Generation. It's a complex system and I don't want to risk frying something.

I have Canadian spec maxima which has an oem drl which is the basically the hi beam light at a lower voltage. I disabled mine by removing the fuse under the hood in the fuse box labelled dtrl..

If yours has this fuse location, maybe you can splice your fog wiring to this spot in the fuse box with an add a fuse. In this way your fog light will act as a drl so when you turn on the low beams the fogs will turn off. Also by doing this you will still have the use of the fogs using the stalk as well.

I hear what you are saying, but the US version has none of the wiring fuses etc... For the DRL's. Question, would you have the Zenon headlights. From what I have heard this is another can of worms you don't want to start playing around with .
