extreme daily driver

What are some daily tips I can do as a daily driver to keep my engine cool and efficient. I Drive about 100 to 200 miles a day in Texas heat :/ I really take care of my car but starting the engine up 15-20 times a day worries me. I've searched the boards and found some mods that help, but I don't have the extra cash for that.

Interesting question. I want to see what others say. 120 miles on my commute. I am following the recommended maintenance and using synthetic oil every 5k, k&n intake, with premium fuel. 25k miles in 10 months, running great.

from what I read about 350z's adding the same style cooler, they dropped 20-30 degrees in oil temps even under load. from 220 to below 200.

I drive 130+ miles a day. Last year was 45k miles, this year I have done 28k miles so far.

I have never seen a problem with the car getting hot, so is it something you feel you need to worry about?

We need LtLeary to join this conversation. He drives umteen million (or somewhat less) miles each day down in south Florida. Not quite Texas heat, but he definitely drives high mileage every day.

Thanks Light: I have been cutting back (read I took a vacation for two weeks so have only put on the ump miles this month!!!)

To OP: I now have 209,000 on my 09 driving in the Florida heat and humidity. As you mention that you take great care of your car there are very few items that I can recommend.
1.) Dino or Synthetic take your pick but keep to a righteous schedule
2.) If you haven't replaced your OEM battery...do it now before the heat sucks it dry.
3.) I know I am old fashioned but I flush and fill my radiator every year.
4.) Keep it clean. Down here the love bugs can clog up the radiator. Don't forget this part when cleaning your ride.
5.) Keep your foot out of it. If you are always the first off the line and last to brake you will be genning a lot more heat and wear and tear (I know the 35/635/75 corridors can be stop and go, but go ahead and let someone get ahead of you. It is safer and makes stop and go a bit less tiresome.
6.) I know it is obvious but keep an eye on tire pressures. The more resistance to rolling the more strain.
7.) I know I am guilty of this but should say...keep the extra weight out of your car. I know that my trunk full of tools, Laptops, etc are overkill (keep some tools and emergency supplies but don't go overboard as I do!)
8.) Air Filters are cheap. If it looks dirty (not just clogged) replace it.
9.) Use quality gas....doesn't mean the most expensive but if you use the same pumps every other day as I do, you get to know the managers and how they care for their tanks/water mitigation.
10.) Don't worry. You are driving a Maxima! Enjoy the ride.

probably monitor/record you're oil temps and if you see that it's too high than add the oil cooler. that's the best way to determine what you need in your situation.

I guess I can comment on that :P I drive in the Dubai, one of the world's hottest places!

I do about 300kms on a daily basis during this heat, temps here reach around 50C (122F). Thank god! My Max doesn't face any issues.

- In heat, its better to use Nitrogen in your tires instead of normal Air, as Air expands and contracts with the change of temperature. This makes the car shaky, bumpy, and sometimes burst your tires out. Set the Nitrogen pressure to 33PSI and off you go.
- Change your oil at every 5,000kms (about 3,000miles) to prevent the dirty oil from scratching your internals and lessening its age.
- Flush your engine every 25,000kms (about 15,000miles) to remove the left out debris.
- Clean your injectors every 40,000kms (about 25,000miles) to improve your efficiency and MPGs.

Our cars are built to withstand the harshest environments on earth. Those engines can last up to 500,000kms (about 312,000miles) if treated properly.

You've got no worries.

Thanks man! This helps alot. Im really just worried about the push to start failing or my stillen intake sucking up too much hot air lol
