The strength of our engines

I was wondering how much our engines can take.. I only use 93 oct.. and I was wondering about the timing advance. +2 is great but +4 is awesome. I've kept the +2 in at all times since purchasing the BD... but my real question is, is there any risk to keep the +4 deg downloaded full time?

Do you kn ow your actual timing curve through the RPM under load? (WOT)?

BDT doesn't let you monitor?

It does, but I only download and put it in the glovebox. Plus I wouldn't know what to look for in monitoring it.

I think I heard someone mention 15? With 19 maximum? Does that sound like a right answer?

I can't find the thread

also it gives me the option for + 1, 2, 3, 4... Can I do a +3 or is it in increments of 2's?

considering an Uprev tune consists of a much larger timing advance, I think you're fine doing 1-4. stock should be 15 degrees

So its safe to run +4 on 93 oct, full time?

(I'm so new to tuning and jap cars in general, that some of these questions must sound so dumb, lol)

Also Ghozt just curious wheres your timing at through the uprev?

I don't see why you'd have an issue unless you kept the advanced timing and started using 87 octane; and even then not sure that'd cause an issue cause the ECU retards the timing when it detects lower octane fuel.

How much timing you can get I think depends on the tuner too and if he knows what he is doing; with race fuel you can advance the timing quite a bit but obviously none of us are doing anything like that. My timing probably isn't that much more than yours; but with Uprev you can control a lot more aspects such as (quoted from their site)

Idle RPM
Speed Limiter
Electronic Throttle Control to achieve Wide Open Throttle at all speeds.
Rev Limiter
DTC disable
AFR Targets
Fuel Compensation (for NA or Turbo cars)
Ignition Timing Advance
Cam Phasing

I'd like to see the timing curve through the RPM range and under load. Also, what seems to be the area in the RPM band where the CVT stays for best performance under WOT?

It be nice to see the actual timing and it it is consistent when under lead/WOT.

Cam phasing, AFR's would gain you fellas the best. Along with perhaps a CVT mudule/TCM modification ability due to the fact that adding mods changes the power curve, and as such CVT behavior/shift points should also be adjusted accordingly.

Not sure if you would gain much from added revs since it's not a conventional transmission where shift points determine what RPM you'll be at when shifting.

I want to say the best power ranges are 4400 - 5400 RPMs. With my tune I saw the greatest gains (30 WHP) around 5k RPMs. The gains around 6200 were closer to 18 WHP.

Can someone explain what this WOT problem thing is all about? I've seen people say the BD doesn't fix it or whatever... But what's the issue to begin with?
