Noises O_O

Have a 2012 SV, got it last June. Since then, I've been experiencing some noises, which I have already addressed to (2) different dealers while being serviced. Some of the noises were described as "normal". I was just wondering if anyone here has experienced the same in their cars? Feedback is appreciated!

- Dead rattle coming from the right side of the radio controls in the trim. Seems to stop when a palm tap it or when it's cold outside. Dealer test drove and heard nothing!

- After picking up speed from startup and in drive, hear a noise that sounds like something hitting the brush guard under the nose of the car.

- Gas door whines when unlocking the car

- Metal ping noise under the hood at idle or after shutting the car down. Sometimes 2 or more times.

Is it just me? LOL

Some of this is normal and some isn't. Some I don't know much about.
I believe the sound that comes after picking up speed from startup is the anti-lock brake check. It's the system doing a check to ensure proper operation.
The gas door whine sounds like you have a squeaking gas door lock. When the doors are unlocked, the gas door is too. When the doors are locked, the gas door is locked. Maybe you have a failing mechanism.
The pinging noise is normal - I believe it is the sound of the metal parts in the exhaust cooling down. Most of the cars I've owned did this and my Max does it too. It should stop a few minutes after shut down. Nothing to worry about there.
Hopefully others can address the other issues.

Thanks for verifying those for me. According to 2 dealers the gas door thing is normal but I can't see how like you said. My 2011 didn't make the noise either. I assumed the pings were from heat. I'm gonna have to go back there and argue lol.

I suppose it could just need lubrication as well. Might not be failing, just in need of some grease. Mine is less than 2100 miles old and doesn't squeak.

Good luck!

If the sound that sounds like something 'hitting the brush guard' happens at speeds around 15 to 20 MPH (around the same time the automatic door locks lock the doors), it IS the ABS system doing its check. This is on ALL 7th gen Maximas, although it seems to be a little more noticable on some 7th gens than on others.

The metal 'pings' are very normal, especially when the car has been driven fairly hard in hot weather. Over the years, the pinging has grown softer in my 2009.

Radio trim rattle is not normal, and I would insist that it be fixed. I would not tolerate rattles in the cabin of my car.

I have not experienced the gas cap whine.

Guess I need to go have a talk with the dealer about the cabin and gas door. Thanks for the help!

I agree most of the other noises are normal or quickly solvable but....

I think i have something similar to what you describe as the metal ping noise after shutting off the car. I'm very familiar with the exhaust pinging at a fairly rapid pace after shutting off the car. Usually this is many short, frequent pings that diminish over 3-5 minutes. The ping I get is this louder, deeper noise that sounds like sheet metal "popping" and it generally only happens once within 1-3 minutes of shutting the car off. I suspect a heat shield or other metal part is flexing and popping from heating and cooling. Anyone else experience that?

I seem to recall such a single ping someone here experienced a year or two ago, and, as I recall, a slight repositioning of the heat shield eliminated the noise. If the heat shield is the cause of your ping, at least it is just an annoyance, and does not affect the operation of the car.
