IVT control circuit failure P0021 and P0011

My CEL came on over the weekend, but I haven't noticed any other symptoms. I read the codes and it produced P0011 and P0021, Intake Valve Timing (IVT) control circuit failure (bank 1 and 2).

Has anyone run into this problem? Any fixes?

Again, the car seems to be running just fine...

Found this on the Altima site. How you doing on oil changes?

P0011 NISSAN - Intake Valve Timing Control Performance Bank 1
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible engine lack/loss of power
- Posssible engine rough idle
Possible Causes
- Harness or connectors
- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted
- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve may be faulty
- Crankshaft position sensor (POS) may be faulty
- Camshaft position sensor
Tech Notes
Since the Intake valve timing control solenoid valve uses oil flow to control timing, dirty oil can cause the valve to stuck open or close. Before replacing the valve, change engine oil and filter and reset engine code.

P0021 NISSAN - Intake Valve Timing Control Performance Bank 2
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible engine lack/loss of power
- Posssible engine rough idle
Possible Causes

- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted
- Intake valve timing control solenoid valve may be faulty

It's been 700 miles since my last oil change. I change the oil and filter every 3k w/ 5w-30 synthetic. I checked the oil, and it looks pretty clean, but it's pretty close to the top of the notched area on the dipstick. Could it be related to having too much oil?
I will change the oil and see if that does anything.

No I wouldn't change oil again just after 700 miles. Try some further research on-line. It's often the case where your not the first Nissan owner with this issue as your car seems to be running fine.
Maybe it's just a sensor...I don't know.
Even if your past your 3yr/30K warranty you may need to take it in and have it looked at.

P0021 p0011

I know this might be a late response however I ran into the issue was well. My 2010 maxima has 74,000km on it. It came up right before my oil change was due, I perform every 12,000km. I thought an oil change would fix it but it didnt. I then tried the oil flush first using kleen flo english flush and then I changed my oil again. (I used Castrol Edge synthetic 5W-30). The light still came on except it down to 1 code. A mechanic recommend I try Wynns oil treatment and run it for awhile. I cleared the code put in the wynns and it hasnt been back. I will update if it does. Oil was the cheapest thing to change so I started there.

This is probably not a great answer (but it is what it is)...I just got the P0011 error on my car while driving to a friend's house. Car was running fine, and I cleared the code with my bluetooth OBD tool. It hasn't come back in the last 5 days. Car is still running fine. I also had a similar code (I think) a while back. Again car was running fine. Cleared the code and haven't had any problems (or the code) since I cleared it a few months ago.

I had read some stuff on oil grime messing with the sensors (or something like that) so I figured it cleared/cleaned itself up. YMMV!! :-)

I had the p0011 2 times with my 2010, almost exactly a year apart with same code. I have a tread somewhere.

Both times I had the oil changed and cleared the code to take care of the issue. Because I knew the code from the first time, I checked the oil prior to getting it changed and it was dark. Cleared the code and changed the oil and all was good.

I should mention with the 2010, 95% ofmy driving was stop and go city driving and only drive about 6-7k miles a year

I have this issue on my 2010 Altima. it threw both codes. the dealer wants to replace the rear timing cover.. They claim an internal seal is bad and the car is leaking oil internally. A oil passage way is not sending oil to the top of the engine. basically a $2200 job.. The car has 71K miles on it. not sure what to do. they said they have to remove the entire engine to do the job.
