Installed cat back exhaust yesterday

I finally got my Borla cat back exhaust shipped to me yesterday. It's my first mod that I've done on my 2013 Max, and man what a difference. It took about one and a half hours to install. Not bad for working on the ground using a pair of scissor jacks. I'm really not sure what to try next, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm more interested in making it quicker than making it flashy. I don't know what aftermarket add ons I can get away with before the dealer will give me the stink eye over the warranty.

Y pipe, Racingline.....NWP intake spacers...both of those are good gainers, as well as the new NWP 75mm TB adapter

Please don't work on your car using scissor jacks in the future!!!

Thanks, I will look into those. And I only used the scissor jacks to jack it up, and then I slid my jackstands underneath. I got pics to prove it. lol

How do you like the Borla? I went with Stillen, and let me tell, what a piece of ****. Sounded awful (past tense) Ended up going to a local shop and cutting off the mufflers and replacing them. As Stillen MO, fitment was crap.

Pics of the Borla?

I used to have a Borla and it's more on the quiet side. Ended up going AAM cause nothing compares to it.

Any chance you'd consider posting an audio clip or video clip? I'd like to hear what it sounds like at idle, revving, and accelerating, from both outside and inside the car.

But I'd take any old audio clip. Trying to decide if the extra noise is something that would make me crazy with the amount of driving I do or not...

Thanks!

The NWP adapter plate is for the 75 mm throttle that is stock on the 7th gen, so no it's not applicable!

Thanks bunches.
I've had trouble finding clips of JUST the cat backs as many folks add an intake as well.
Sounds pretty nice...

How much drone do you get in the cabin when you are on the gas? How about between 60 and 80?
I'm asking about when cruising and maintaining speed, as opposed to when mashing down the fast pedal.

The drone is more relative to engine RPM and less with the speed of your car. My Borla starts a minimal drone @ around 2300 RPM and seems to last for maybe a few hundred more RPM and then it smooths right out. It's way noticable right after you first install it after having the stock exhaust on. After a week or two you notice the added punch it provides and the drone a lot less.

The reason I didn't buy the the AAM and Stillen over the Borla is:

1) I didn't want to pay to have the AAM re-fitted due to having the y-pipe.
This $$ would be on top of the $1350 and approx $70 more to ship to the west coast....pushing it in the range of $1500 bucks.
2) Although the AAM is sick sounding, I leave my house @ 4:30 in the morning for work and need to consider the neighbors with a little quieter exit.
3) I think the Stillen sounds better than the Borla but the lower quality stainless construction and funky "oval" tips made it a no go for me.

The Borla was $840 delivered to my garage door. Top quality stainless construction like the AAM plus it was adjustable when it came to bringing the tips back under the rear bumper cover where they belong. (I do not like sled style tips protruding out the back end of the car).

Yes, and no.

The drone is the sound resonating. When you are pushing a lot of air through the tubes, you get the noise. This can be more prevalent during certain RPM ranges. Most people notice the resonating at highway speeds (hence drone) and when accelerating.
At highway speeds you are in that rpm range, so when you press the gas to maintain speed you get the noise. Some cars this is terrible in, and others aren't that bad. That is the question that I was asking.

Yeah OK.
Been driving for about 38 years yet I will never call myself an expert at anything but....
I answered your question in terms of my 2010 maxima having a Borla exhaust and when I noticed the drone.
My car could be going 25MPH @ 2300RPM or it could be transitioning between 50 and 65 MPH or 65 to 80MPH and at some point be within 2300RPM + during that process and here the same drone.
Again, your engine is a big air pump and drone is mostly relative to an RPM range and not how fast (MPH) you are traveling.

The Borla has no drone...if you think the added sound is drone then you have never heard real drone. That's the reason it's overall so quiet, they designed the mufflers and resonator to make it essentially drone-free cause previous sets used to drone for other cars.

Your right....drone isn't as bad as the cherry bombs I had bolted to the headers on my 1970 BB Cobra Torino.....

What did you do with your old exhaust? Chuck it?

You notice any pipe size difference between the Borla system and the stock exhaust pipe?

I myself kept the stock exhaust. The Borla has the same 2.25 diameter as stock aft of the split.
Here's a nice website for exhaust videos.

Question... What comes with a cat-back exhaust system? And if you have the racingline y-pipe, what wouldn't you need from the catback exhaust sysem?

Reason being is I was going to get muffers and the y-pipe from a friend, but wondered if that made a catback or if something else is included.

well the catback system is just as it sounds...everything from the Cat...back to the muffler tips. the B pipe, the mufflers, everything behind the cat.

Y pipe is before the cat, so that's irrelevant, an entirely different piece.

If that's what you're going to install you will retain the stock mid pipe (which contains the stock resonator). Not quite a complete cat back but you could go to a custom exhaust shop and they could provide you with a mid pipe and resonator pipe as two individual pieces.

Is there any performance gains on a cat back system or is this mainly for sound purposes? Sorry for the newb question, just curious...I've never messed with the exhaust

Technically, the y-pipe from racing line replaces the 3rd unmetered cat.

Yes, there are performance gains from a CBE. Your car will not take FULL advantage of those gains unless the ECU is tuned, however.

Ok so to me it sounds like a waste without a tune. I'd save my money cut the mufflers and put in straight pipes if I wanted the sound. K thanks for answer

I wouldn't say it's a waste without a tune. Many people here (including me) would tell you that there is a definite power/torque increase even without a tune.

The message I was trying to convey, and this is true for any performance mod, is that you're not getting the full benefit of those mods without a tune.

I gotcha, I guess I'm the type that doesn't really get adding performance mods to a car that isn't really fast in the first place...too much weight with these big fat a$$es we got

Would a straight pipe be fine to use with the y-pipe and mufflers? Been thinking about the resonator delete options, does any have a setup like that with any sound clips?

YouTube maxima muffler delete, the sounds are the same if not better then adding a full catback with a name brand. I don't mean to trash what anyone does with there cars, but 2-5 hp increase isn't worth it to me. Beat my stock maxima in a race and ill bow down to any performance mods

I WANT IT! Lol. Atleast with the RL Y-Pipe and seeing the muffler delete as an option until I can save up for the AAM, this is the route I wanna go. Question, can you tell if these videos of the muffler delete also did a resonator delete? Or is this just bent piping from the midpipe back?

Looking good and clean. Maybe replace or delete the resonator for a louder exhaust note.
