Engine Covers

So a long time ago I painted these bright red; got over that REAL quick and took most of the covers off. Almost 2 years later now I finally took some time and stopped being lazy and color matched em.

Nice match....looks great. I have been debating on doing either a color match or a faux carbon fiber look.
I do have one question though, am I seeing things or is your master cylinder filler cap missing?

i used automotivetouchup.com to get my adhesion promotor, base color (radiant silver), and clear. the quality of the nozzles on their rattle cans has great even dispersion (better than duplicolor) and the color match is pretty damn good as you can see. i showed my body shop guy and he was like what the hell?? from a can?

wow, thanks for that. you most definitely are not seeing things. must have left it off when i topped off the fluid the other day (VDC came on). just found it, it had fallen down under my intake.

Nice catch ! Didn't even notice that until you said something.

No problem bro! That's my favorite part of this forum-helping out one another.
I'm glad you at least found it and it wasn't lost.

How many cans of promoter/primer/color/clear did you need?

What surface prep did you do?

That's not true, the covers are plastic and don't get that hot. Plastic like this melts at 200-220, so the temps you're playing with are below that. If I was painting metal in the engine bay that's a different story, but even then I'd just use a high heat primer and high heat clearcoat.

High heat paint is preferred for metal in the engine bay, that's why its called "engine paint", but I've used lots of non-high heat paint in headlights (which get pretty hot too) and never had an issue. It's all about prep. I've talked to several guys who do powdercoating and hydrographics and when they do paint-work they use regular automotive paint unless its metal.

Nice art work. I still have a couple of those barely surviving in the backyard pond.
They are Koi...aren't they?

Hey Ghozt, would you recommend using this paint and method for a stillen lip for example? You gave some inspiration and I'm curious if I should pick up 2 cans of color matched spray.

Btw saw an old post of ur red covers, whoa you were right about getting over those fast lol

Yeah you can use this paint for body parts too, you can order it in a spray can or mixed up ready for a paint gun. I used the rattle can to do these covers and color match the chrome bar on my trunk - came out great! Don't forget the primer and clearcoat!
