Datsun

Love it, even if the release is only in India.
This brings back memories driving the Datsun B210's. Both of them- one green and one gold.
My father did the 2-fer deal from Younker Datsun in 1974, my first manual trans initiation.

Gotta say, that is pretty cool. Anyone else ever notice though that a lot of stock factory stereos are getting simpler and simpler looking? Just an observation. I kind of wouldn't mind having that classic analog dial again...

Yeah no doubt, and for about $6600US it would be a great little commuter car.

Because of dozens of comprehensive government safety and environmental requirements, this vehicle would probably cost several thousand more bucks to produce for the U.S. market. Before anyone suggests the government should keep 'hands off', I would say we are very fortunate our government tries to insure our vehicles are as safe as possible, and that they do as little damage to our environment as can reasonably be expected.

As I posted somewhere here last month, this Datsun will only be available in hatchback form the first model year, and will never be made available in the U.S.

I bought my first two Maximas (1985 model year) in October of 1984. I chose the Maxima because of the great service I had received from my Datsuns in the 1970s and early 1980s. I have owned nothing but Maximas since then.

Like dr_2010SV, I remember the B210 (predecessor of the Nissan Sentra). I also remember the honeycomb wheels (a word play on the 'B' in 210B). I also liked the Datsun 510 (predecessor to the Nissan Stanza/Altima). I loved the Datsun 710 (first released as a 1977 model), which was redesigned and renamed the Datsun Maxima (1st generation Maxima!) in 1981. A diesel version was also available in 1981 and 1982.

With the release of the 1984 model year vehicles in fall of 1983, all Datsun products became Nissan products. So the 1984 Maxima was a Nissan.

In fall of 1984, the 2nd generation Maxima arrived as the 2005 Maxima, which was the first front wheel drive Maxima. As I mentioned earlier, I bought two of those 1985 Maximas in October 1984, and my wife and I put over 200K miles on each of them. We loved those two Maximas.

But we are rambling again.

lightonthehill, I enjoy reading your posts. I like reading the history about a car that I've owned since the 90's. This is my fourth Maxima & I've enjoyed owning all of them.

Light's rambling always contains a history lesson and I think we all enjoy it. I personally think he needs his own personal blog thread where every day he can post a rambling post for us to read and learn from!!!!

Is that a threat?

Seriously, I am lucky to find time to log onto my computer for a few moments every other day. And it often comes between 4AM and 5AM, as I am trying to get into bed for a few hours sleep. I have an appointment in downtown Atlanta at 10AM this morning, so will once more get by on three hours sleep.

I would feel my insane schedule was shortening my life or ruining my health, except that I have already exceeded my life expectancy, and have no major health problems, other than a mental disorder that causes me to ramble on and on when posting.

While I am rambling, am I the only one here who rode in Pierce Arrows, Cords, Auburns and Terraplanes in the 1930s?

I'm afraid pop, you're the only one. See what we mean. Get a thread to yourself.
