Messd up my cvt
Messd up my cvt
so i pretty much chewed up my cvt , took it to a private track again here in Michigan and after 1 hour of racing it just did not shift right , it wouldn't respond to down shift , it wouldn't let out full power at all , also DS mode wouldn't work anymore . The next day i woke up it seems to be fine . by the way i took my friends g37s coupe !
Yep. This Nissan CVT is wonderful for every type of normal driving imaginable. But it is not a track tranny, so has to protect itself by entering the 'limp' mode when overheated.
CVTs do run hotter than any other type tranny.

That's why its a good idea to change out the fluid at 50k instead of the normal 100k that Nissan recommends. Mine was light brown at that mileage and Nissan said it was good for another 50k miles. I'm adding a trans cooler to my Cougar this weekend and will probably put one on the Maxima as well.
So, has anyone installed an aftermarket transmission cooler?
I've been wondering lately about ways to deal with engine/transmission heating and cooling (especially since the ambient air temperature here is so hot!), looking at things from heat reflective tape/insulation, an oil filter relocation kit & oil cooler, trans cooler, performance radiator, etc.
I came across this video regarding CVT cooling systems. I'm reading our service manual now trying to see how ours cools stock and how to improve on it without damaging the high pressure system mentioned in the video. --edit-- I see that the transmission lines go directly to the radiator.
Anyway, thoughts?
