Maxima intake
Maxima intake
So I'm thinking about buying a cold air intake for Maxi, but I hear that most intakes just subtract hp from 7th gen maximas.
My friend has a 2.5 Altima and got an intake and it takes forger for his car to pick up speed, but then again it's an Altima.. Any suggestions? Or has anybody bought an intake that actually improves performance?

There's no true cold air intake for the Maxima unless you designed one yourself( that goes for the altima as well)...The ram air intakes on the market will increase hp but not much because your still drawing hot air from the engine bay. There some good ones out there, others will chime in. I would keep it stock and consider swapping out the filter because the factory intake is in reality a true "cold air intake"
Thy is true about having a true CAI that draws cold air from outside the engine bay, some have made a custom intake that draws from behind the front drivers side wheel well similar to the setup CAI's had with the 6th Gen.
The Stillen intake utilizes the stock part that delivers cold air from the front grill area to the filter. This is the only intake I've seen that utilizes this part. I have a pic of it in my garage if you want to see it.

the R2C has a big shroud, and the Stillen and Injen both have an inlet that attaches to the OEM grill duct sort of. unfortunately since none of them have a complete seal with the grill shroud they arent exclusively pulling air from the front and you're getting a lot of heat soak from the engine bay too especially off the line. for most of the short rams you'll have the same experience, a little bump in power while moving and it makes your car sound cool
