Help with removing steering lock fuse!

Newbie here. I just purchased a used 2009 maxima and after reading about the steering wheel lock issue wanted to take the fuse out. The issue is when the car is on ACC or ON the steering wheel remaines lock until the engines actually starts. I am wary of damaging the car and contacted my nearest Nissan dealer about the steering lock issue. They advise me they have never heard of such issue and there was no recall for my vehicle. Has anybody ran into this issue? and what is the best possible way to remove the fuse? Thanks

This behaviour is NORMAL

If you want to remove the steering lock fuse that's easy..start the car and then pull the fuse.

Correct, that is expected behavior. The issue you read about is where the steering column lock out module will prevent you from STARTING the car.

If you do experience the the failure of the steering wheel lock module where you are unable to start the car the repair is covered by a special 6 year unlimited milage warranty by Nissan.

you should be able to remove it in the on position with the car not started . foot off brake hit start button twice then pull fuse. i did this on my 370z and no problems since its removal

Really could not tell you Dias954. I do not disconnect saftey or security features on my car to possibly prevent future failures of that part. They are there for a reason.

and just so you know several revisions of this steering lock have failed so why take the chance and have it fail when you are out somewhere far from home

this is actually Nissan's fix for the problem. newer models do not even have the fuse. yeah turn the car on, and pull the fuse out in the engine bay. ive had mine pulled for over a year no issues other than occasionally the car will sit there for 2-3 seconds doing nothin before starting. definitely a much better idea than getting stuck somewhere.

It's too late for you to remove the fuse after it has failed. You can consult this post and see if the temporary fixes work for you http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...ock-issue.html

Just went through this hassle!

Just a week ago I come out to my car and no crank. Watched a YouTube video, pulled the panel under the steering wheel, tapped the steering lock module lightly and vroom! Cranked right up.
But I didn't pull the fuse and sure enough as soon as I get to Autozone, it happens again and the tapping didn't help either. So two Uber rides later I got a tech friend to come and remove the module, pull the fuse and since then I have had no problems. Only issue is that the orange key light is on in my dash. I would definitely pull the fuse. You need two people to do this. Tap the start button twice and have a friend pull the fuse and you're done.

Nissan Altima 2009, left me stranded on the road had to tow it home. I tried removing the steering lock fuse but it won’t still start. Any idea of the best solution to this problem as I can afford to get a new steering lock

Remove the fuse

Here is what i did with mine. The issue happened as i was fixing the alternator. I tapped the box after some research and it worked fine. The minute i locked the car again it didn’t want to start. So i kept tapping my arm off until it finally worked again. I went home and removed the fuse while it was on. Now i lock my car and unlock start as if nothing happened 🙏
