You can thank our super smart or incredibly stupid CVT transmission depending how you look at it. There's nothing you can do about this. The CVT shifts up automatically to avoid any stress or strain on the tranny. You have to shift sooner or just let the CVT do its thing.

How much higher do you want it to rev?

As ThinBlue said, the car is protecting itself. Same with downshifts.

I have to be honest, as somebody that's driven stick shift cars since I was 16 (just turned 40) and now just having bought my first automatic in the Maxima...I find the concept of 'shifting' an automatic trans completely silly. It doesn't feel natural and is artificial shifting at best, blatantly automated at worst. Kind of like an oil guage needle that doesn't show real oil pressure, just moves to a fixed position and holds steady.

I've found that you need to actually activate Manual mode not just Drive Sport mode. My Max will not shift until I do when it's in Manual mode

this is by design, and its to keep you from destroying the transmission. as others said how much higher do you want it to rev anyway, and why?

personally i love manual mode, i downshift to slow down all the time and love downshifting and punching it when rolling. definitely doesnt feel like a true manual, but its a lot of fun and feels kinda like a video game.

Yeah, once the selector is in Ds mode you can activate manual mode using the selector or the paddle shifters (if equipped).

Note - you can temporarily select 'gears' using the paddle shifters when the car is D mode. A few moments after using the paddles and the car will shift back into D mode. Comes in handy on off ramps.

Im not looking for the rev limiter , it just shifts almost 500rpms before redline, im used to real standard. so i like to bring it to redline and top it out, i feel like the car has so much more. but it is still fun to drive.

In D it will stay right around redline till you let off if your trying to redline it.

I wasn't sure about this CVT thing but I must say flooring this car and having it peak at redline and stay there till I let off is pretty freaking cool. And sounds awesome with my AEM intake.
