Help! Weird Noise! (CVT Failure)

Hey guys,

I was on cruise control yesterday at 130km/h when my car suddenly disengaged from the cruise control and started reducing its speed. I pressed on the accelerator to find that the car is getting choked and is not accelerating any more. I switched it into Manual mode to see what was going on, it got stuck on 6M and refused to shift to any other ratio.

I kept driving till I barely reached home. I stopped the car, turned it off, turned it back on after few minutes with still the same problem. I cannot tell what it is exactly since it is happening even when the car is on Park. I even noticed a weird noise coming from the engine at like 3000rpm.

When I turned the car on this morning, it still had the same issue, I need help

Watch the below video (NOTE: At the end of the video, I receive a notification on my phone so don't get confused :P)

Bummer

Sounds like your due for a new CVT guy. Sorry. Our transmissions don't like being pushed to hard and when they are the go into "limp" mode to prevent failure. In your case, sounds like something probably failed internally which may be causing the noise. Either way you should take it in to get looked at. Hopefully this time it will be a booger and thief free experience for you!!

Dude that sucks to hear and I hope this doesn't cause you major problems. Anyways, I noticed that you brought the car from a cold start to near redline without letting the idle settle. I have a question, do you think that at all contributed to the problem? I've read in the manual that it harmful to rev to high rpm's if the engine/tranny are not fully warmed up.

Are you sure? What do you think caused the problem in the first place! Plus I don't race my car nor do any sort of pushing on the CVT.

I was waiting for such comment. I think this was my very first time revving the car while being cold. Just wanted to show you guys what is happening.

It sounds like an accessory like a pump dried up. That would not cause your other issues however, maybe the pump in the CVT went bad?

I actually have no idea what's wrong :/ I just came to a mechanic to inspect the car. Let's see what he tells me!

Okay I can officially say I have bitten the dust!

The report came out, my CVT is completely gone. The pump failed and caused the entire assembly to wear itself out. The cost for the part only is 35,500 AED (9665 US$). I am really disappointed from this CVT.

My car has only 120,000km (74,560 miles) and have never tracked the car and most of the mileage is highway mileage, yet the CVT fails. I raped my previous M3 and never had my gear broken. I'm just out of words and probably expressing my anger through words and emotions.

Sucks!

Can I ask a question?

Where can I find an official source that talks about the maintenance of the Xtronic CVT?
