HID question

For people that have upgraded to HIDs from there halogens. Is there a spot to mount the ballast if you purchase the same ballast as the OEM HIDs? Like a spot where you would not need to use zip ties. Or are the OEM's just way overpriced and not worth it?

This is one of my old halogen headlights, yes there is a spot for the OEM ballast to go, but if you go with an OEM ballast you will also need these: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=244

So is it more of a pain to install the OEM's? Haven't seen anyone do it, though I'm sure some have. Will the headlights have to be removed?

It may be more of a pain, mainly due to the factory connector that supplies power to the ballast, I'm not sure if it's the same H11 connector the halogens have or not (I doubt it). I think Ghozt or Acdna will know for sure. But other than the factory connector issue, it would be a pretty easy and clean install.

Otherwise, if you got an aftermarket ballast, there's an angled metal bar a few inches behind and below the headlight to mount/ziptie the ballast onto.

just go aftermarket. you'd spend more work modifying the factory wiring to plug into the OEM HID ballast than is necessary for a project like this (adding HIDs). also the location of the plug on the ballast is on the inside of the light, on this halogen headlights there is no opening where the mount location is as you can tell from the pic
