maxima 2012 sv usb connection
Yes, you can play music through the usb port from a usb drive...
Have you considered checking the user manual for tips on troubleshooting?
After consulting the user manual, and you are still having problems, try a different usb drive? If that one fails as well, then you have a problem with the USB port and internal wiring I assume. Or it might just be a PICNIC issue...

The USB key needs to be in FAT32 file system format. If not, re-format it with your PC in FAT32.
To re-format it plug it into your computer then open up the properties of the usb. Depending on what operating system is on your computer you should see options to re-format and or save the contents.
Click on FAT32 and you should be gtg. Another quicker way to do it is to plug into your computer then add additional music files.
You will be asked what format you want to save the files as and at that time you simply select FAT32 and have all files converted. Hope this helps.

You can think of file system format as a method of bookshelf (for books of course) ordering. Let's say you have books arranged by titles on your book shelf.
If you want to "reformat" it, to say, books arranged by name of the author, you would have to take out all the books and re-arrange them. The books, (or music on the usb stick) never change. How they are stored is what changes.
So by saying add more files, and saving them as "FAT32" format is non-sense, as one would probably never arrange half the books in alphabetical titles order and the other half as alphabetical author name order. It would be confusing and things would get lost in the process. Also, on the computer, it is, at the layman's level, impossible to have two different file systems on the same drive. I say layman's level because more advanced computer uses know how.
So the real answer here is pull ALL your music off the USB drive, reformat the drive as "FAT32" and then put the music back on there. Reformating WILL remove/delete your music.
Mexican2319, I apologize, my method was incorrect. Yes when you re-format your usb, cd or floppy disk you do indeed erase everything on it. Then you can convert any new contents to another file system. Akiyukio is correct and his explanation is spot on. My apologies again if I confused you.
