Huh. I thought our cars had an antifreeze coolant cooler where the coolant from the engine is what cools the trans fluid. To add an additional trans cooler you tap into those lines.

 

Not debating that, I just know that a previous member that probably knew the most of any about this car did a trans cooler and said that when he checked with the odbii scanner it showed an error code that didn't show up on the car that was due to tranny fluid pressure through the cooler. He did run his trans cooler for many miles without a problem but he also didn't seem to care about warranty so just make sure. If anything check the Lancer forums on the trans coolers they run because they use JATCO as well

 

ya the guy that told me about this told me to make sure u install a big trans cooler before turning it off because it will get hot. i already installed a huge cooler..its about a quarter of the size of the radiator lol..its rated at 29,000 btus..that should keep it cool :-)

There is a product I used on a right hand Japanese spec Skyline called the shadow e-drive. It cost like 10,000 yen ($100) but it skewed the ETC perfectly. I got a hold of my friend in Japan he told me they now have a newer model called the Shadow E-drive advance 2. The newer model is plug and play for newer vehicles with ETC. It won't give you a 100% throttle but it does increase the factory throttle signal by 15-30%. You have to order it with the harness for the VQ35DE.

 

Mishimoto makes good stuff, I have their universal trans cooler and one of their intercoolers

How in the world are you getting 30.5 mpg? Even on my best long distance road trip driving around 70 mph the best I could get was 26.5. Should I drive slower or what?
By the way, just bought mine about 2 months ago, love this car!

 

try resetting it while you're on the highway. when i do that the computer averages 30-33 mpg which probably isn't too far off from what you're getting

 

Just sent an email asking them if it will infact override the throttle cut before 30mph and after 85mph. I'll let you guys know.

 

Researching this Throttle booster edrive and beginning to think it will do nothing.

The throttle control at the pedal will send a skewed signal to the PCM with this device. But it will only change the ramp up of the throttle opening.

I think the actual throttle governing is happening from the PCM not the throttle control unit at the pedal. The pedal assembly is just a simple scale of throttle opening. As we know the throttle governing that we want to get rid of happens at WOT so this device being plugged in between the pedal assembly and the car would be at WOT either way in turn the PCM is seeing WOT and adjusting accordingly.

 

The trick is to make the PCM not see WOT throttle. You can skew the voltages to modify the signal to fool it into not throttle cutting. For example if your PCM sees 100% throttle at 4500 RPMs it will feather back the timing but if it only sees 80% throttle at 4500 RPMs it won't. You adjust voltages so that it doesn't trigger the threshold cut.

I understand it isn't eliminating the cutout point but I'd rather have some throttle than just 40%. Manufactures are getting trickier these days with there programing hoodoo. I get limiting the general public but think they should give the option to buy a trim level up with a beefier trans-cooler and an aggressive program.

 

I wonder if when you hit 85mph you let off on the gas pedal just past the "click" if it would stay at more than 40%

 

another way to achieve 80% throttle would be to do exactly that, not floor it

 

It is pretty sad we purchased a vehicle that only delivers the advertised horsepower some of the time. What is interesting is my '13 2.5 Altima did not have the same "pull back" sensation when under full throttle at high speed, I noticed it immediately on my Maxima.

 

Well if someone wants to hook up their scanner and when throttle is cut to 40% or so after 85mph, lift off past the click and see if it gains throttle back.
I will try this but with rush hour traffic daily and below 20 degrees almost daily it won't be for a while.

 

I doubt it will work, I think the car looks at MPH when determining maximum throttle percentage. Just a guess.

 

At this point I'm not certain at what the vehicle bases the cutback on. Usually the MAF, TPS, and O2 sensors are tied together in a loop. MPH is governed on the vehicle as well, but most say they are just accelerating when it cuts back.

Once I get back home from traveling I can try to set some time aside to datalog. Unless someone else finds out first.
