How bad will it be?

I had to have both exhaust valve control magnet retarders for vtc sprockets replaced, bank 1 and bank 2. I was showing codes P0014 and P0024. It was not covered under warranty. The dealership told me Nissan voided the engine warranty on this vehicle when it was turned in from a lease. "excessive engine sludge build up due to lack of maintenance." (bought the Max at auction and this wasn't disclosed). Anyway, that is my issue to deal with and not the point. Two weeks after picking the car up from getting the sensors replaced, both codes are back. I spoke to a mechanic I know and he said this could eventually be a major issue. My SV Max is a 2009, has 34,345k miles. I have had it for almost a year and a half and have changed the oil religiously every 3000K.

What do you guys think is happening, and do you think it is going to be a major problem?

Thanks!

I don't know if it this would help at this point, but have you looked into seafoam treatments? Seafoam is supposed to help remote oil deposits and other build up. I used it once around 40k after I had an episode where my car overheated and I wanted to make sure the motor was clean, it put off a ton of smoke it was crazy.

I will look into that. I was going to flush the engine anyway. Maybe the sea foam works much better. Thanks for the link!

I don't have much to add to this but out of curiosity when buying a vehicle on auction don't you do a CARFAX report before bidding or do they not disclose the VIN number?

Yes you could run the vin and get a car fax report as long as you have enough time when you see the car.
