CVT question

I had the max in first gear and drove for about 2 miles and finally notice when I was on the highway. got it up to 60mph at about 6000rpm for about 5 secs.

is this something to worry about? I know on a regular tranny it would be but not sure about the cvt's.

thanks

That's strange as the cvt will normally shift up or down by itself well before any damage is done.

I've done this before and didn't hurt it. I did learn it helps to turn the music down a bit.

If your car is broken in (over 1250 miles on the odo) and was at least a little bit warmed up at the time (driven for a moment or two before getting to high rpms), I would not think this would cause any problems for the CVT.

I have noticed that, on very long (ten miles or so) steep curvy downgrades, this CVT enables me to set the car in a 'lower gear' (imaginary gear) and proceed down the mountain with little use of the brakes. Yes, the RPMs can get rather high at times (well over 5K), but the 'gear' I set it in holds very nicely.

As long as you don't redline the engine, any transmission and engine would be fine with this event. Not so good for fuel economy, hee hee )
