Intermittent bad Seat Switch
Intermittent bad Seat Switch
Ok, So I was just wondering if anyone elses Climate control seat switch, the rotary **** with the light in it ever doesn't work at times. I have noticed lately that when I get into my car and turn it on and drive off that my Drivers side seat is not on, the switch does not turn on! the light is off and everything, Ill pull over turn the car off and back on and it will work! It seems to be the switch itself that is malfunctioning. Seat heat works fine when it is on. I have searched for this and all there is about this is that the heat function doesn't work properly, my issue is the switch doesn't turn on at times!
It's unlikely that it is the switch. Your switch probably turns on initially but then turns off in anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes.
The CC seat control unit is shutting down because the system is not working properly. That is why the switch turns off. You probably have the same issues as those mentioned in the other threads on the subject.
Do your seatback and seat cushion heat up evenly? If not the system will shut down. This tends to occur more often in the really cold weather.

Many if not all climate controlled drivers seats do not work properly. The seatback and bottom cushion each have a heat/cooling element. It is called a TED. If the difference in temperature between the two of them exceeds 68 degrees the system will shut down.
It appears that the seat TED does not function in most. While the back TED heats great. Is that how yours works?
How is the heat on the passenger side does it get nice and toasty or is it disappointing?

Something crazy to add is I do work for the company that makes the Climate control module for the drivers seat, the company is called Gentherm, they specialize in TED technology. I should try to get a new assembly from them, they might have updated there control module, I know for a fact that they are constantly changing the software versions on them.
There systems are actually very impressive for what they do and they have a very small failure rate. I was told that if the pad that blows the air thru is not installed in the seat properly (basically if they don't match up to the holes in the cushion or back) then it restricts flow and compromises the function. So it could be a build issue at the plant they build these seats!
So the dirty one is one top, same type of filter replacement underneath it, and they have a new mesh style filter on the bottom (best performance)
You would think I would know that but honestly I haven't got a clue! Try the autoparts store or the stealership, they should not cost you more than 2 or 3 bucks, but honestly not sure
What exactly is the filter called? I have never replaced mine and would like to do so.

You can probably find an aftermarket brand for less if you hunt around.

I checked mine and it was barely even dirty so I left alone for now.
If it was really dirty I would attempt to clean it very carefully with something like a soft toothbrush first while searching for a less expensive option.
Installation is so simple. I won't let the dealer touch my car unless it's absolutely necessary!

I checked out the filter today. I might consider paying $8 for it but $80.. no way in hell. Anybody who orders this filter will be very disappointed when they see what their $80 gets them. Just amazing what the dealers try to get away with.
I'll rig something up on my own if/when the time come to change it. Nobody can see under there anyways.
Totally agree.
