HID question for the hid gurus...

i recently purchased a 2011 SV with tech pkg.. i want to put hids in the headlights as well as the fogs. i wanted to see if anyone could give me some feedback on these particular kits here:

http://hidnation.com/kresults.html?y...&e=w/Composite

ALSO, do i need the canceller, or relay??? if so what do they do???

thanks....

I haven't used that peticular make but at that price it doesn't look like you have much to lose if you want to give it a go. Im sure they would still last longer than your average halogen which would cost you about that anyway. So go ahead and give em a shot. Just make sure you get the the harness with the relay and inline fuse. The relay will help because without it you put heavy load on the battery and it's piece of mind so your not having any issues with flickering lights.

TheRetrofitSource.com. Get the H11 kit it comes with a relay. Buy quality products so later down the road you won't have problems.

Get the XB35 bulbs. Or you will have the ground wire shadow.

Comes with everything you need. Select the XB35 option (additional $20) so that you don't have return wire shadow in your output.

How are the XB35 bulbs compared to the 3Five series? I got the 3Fives currently but been looking at the XB35's. Strangely, both say they're "not compatible with OEM Nissan Matsu****a ballasts" yet I've had no problem.

No bc of the fact that the oem ballasts have issues firing aftermarket bulbs

When I converted my fogs to HIDs I ended up doing a complete 5000K. I went with Maxlux for the D2S Bulbs as well as there H11 kit for my fogs. The bulbs come with 2 year warranty and the HID ballast come with 3 years warranty. The good thing is that the ballast came with a canceler built in as well as a relay and it only cost $67 for the HID kit and $30 for the bulbs. Been running this setup since September without a single problem

Please post-up some pic's of what these look like....I'm also leaning towards the 5000K's.

No problem, I have a pic right after the install. They look yellowish in pictures but in person they are completely white. I am new to this forum so excuse me but how exactly do you post/attach pictures to a post?

Nvm. I figured it out. The pic on top is right after the install and the pic on the bottom is about 30 minutes later when the sun had already set. Again it is pure white in person but in pics it always comes out with a yellowish tint.

Both 3Fives and XB35s are fine with OEM ballasts. In the past, people have had issues with their OEM ballasts being finicky and not firing aftermarket bulbs on the first strike.

XB35s are better quality and have the return wires placed in the right spot so that there is no affect on the output. I'd definitely go with them over 3Fives in any sort of application.

Yeah thanks. But I've never had a problem with this kit so as of now I can swear by them.

Getting the D2S: Morimoto XB35 HID bulbs in 5000k on 3/1 and will give feedback after installation and a few uses

Any suggestion for the fogs?

I'm on the fence if I want a stronger yellow output bulb or if I want to match the fogs to the XB35's so it's white on top and white on bottom

I'm going to do exactly what your doing for the low beams. For the fogs I think I'll go with the H11: Morimoto Elite HID System 5000K and the 3five DSP option. I don't need the fogs competing with the XB35's.

I ordered the kit. Did you change the fuses. Which fuse did you change.

I don't think my Maxlux 5k fogs came with relays? I know I didn't wire them in. Mine cost the same wonder why I didn't get relays with them? I'm having issues with mine. The drivers side doesn't light sometimes. About 50% of the time I have to turn the car off and on or sometimes toggle the fogs a few times to get them on. I've left 2 emails for Maxlux and no response as of yet. Can't find a phone # for them that's in America so not sure what's going on.
I was very happy with the quality of parts and especially the brightness but not anymore...

I'm really sorry to hear but yes you're right, that was a mistype. It does not come with the relay. I really don't know what seems to be the problem with yours (whether it's defective or not). I've been running this kit since September and the only time the misfired was when they fell off the adhesive pad and kept shaking around. Once I got them zip tied up they have never misfired again. You should try filing a claim through Amazon because you have up to 90 days and since Maxlux did not reply to your emails you would have a case

Funny. My drivers side light went out. I contacted Maxlux from the Amazon website and they have been responding pretty quickly. They are getting me out a replacement ballast asap. Contact them via amazon.

Sent a message through Amazon.com to Maxlux. If I don't hear back by tomorrow I'll file a claim through Amazon.

Thanks

Maxlux emailed saying to take a picture of the bad ballast after I cut the main wires (proving it won't work again) and they'll ship me a new one. Pretty good idea to stop fraud and not have to pay for return shipping.

Yeah because of that most places require a deposit to send out the replacement item.

Again sorry you were having problems with this kit but at least the problem is getting resolved. Just sucks that you'll be one ballast short until then.

Why do you need another fuse?

I may be wrong but isn't there only 1 fuse for the fog lights? I know my Maxlux kit came with a 20A fuse but I figured it was for cars that didn't already have fogs.

Webpagesby, if your one fog is working your fuse must be fine. Again I could be wrong here...

The fuse Maxlux provides you is to upgrade your 15A stock fuse to 20A because even though the ballast uses less electricity overall compared to a halogen bulb the initial electrical draw is still greater. If you keep the 15A stock in vs the 20A they provide, you have more chance of blowing your fog light fuse on start up (when running a retrofit HID ballast). Hopefully that made sense without being too confusing

Ahh yes, that makes sense but I'm guessing the same concept would apply. Real sorry to hear that others had problems with this kit because I have been really happy with both this kit and the DS2 bulbs from Maxlux.

Did you replace the fuse from the stock 15A to the upgraded 20A?

No why would I do that? If it's not popping it there's no reason for it. Am I wrong?

Fair enough. But Just to eliminate any reason for doubt I guess. I say this because I followed the instructions to a tee and have no experienced the issues you are having so I cannot see why these problems are coming up since it's the same product on the same platform car

I replaced the fuse. We'll see how it goes. Maybe the 15amp won't allow enough power to go through for the initial start up. Hope you're right Ross. Thx
