Just a newbie intro....

Hello All! I've been coming to this forum now for a few weeks and finally decided it was time to register and get to posting.

I bought my 2011 SV on Feb 4, 2014. I honestly wasn't even looking at Maxima's cause they were out of my price range, but found a pretty good deal on one and felt like I had to act on it. I was really looking at Accord's to be practical, but they felt a little too bland for me and I was looking for something FUN to drive. To give you a little background, I had been driving my 1998 Toyota Tacoma for over 16 years!!! I bought it back when I was 19 years old. Though it was extremely reliable, I never really enjoyed driving it. It was just something that got me from point A to point B. Back in December someone rear-ended me and did enough damage to the truck to total it. I thought I was all set for a new car when my wife says to me "Ok, I get a new car and you can have my old car". Her logic was that she drives the kids around all day and needs the more reliable car. So I made the smart (married men, you know what I'm talking about) decision and bought her a 2009 Honda Odyssey (I don't really buy new cars if you haven't picked that up). I took her 2003 Nissan Altima which was in pretty good shape though it was over 10 years old and had nearly 200K miles on it. I was extremely bummed about not being able to get a newer car, but moved on nonetheless. Well, not more than a month later I was driving the Altima and was hit again! Rear-ended just like the first time. Originally the car was just going to be fixed, but after inspection by the body shop, they found additional damage that moved the car into totaled territory. Can you believe that luck? Two totaled cars in two months! Anyhow, so I now had the opportunity to buy a new ride and just kinda fell in love with the look of the Maxima. As I said earlier it is a 2011 SV (no packages). It's in pristine condition both inside and out. I mean the passenger and rear seats look like no one has even sat in them. Plus it only has 36,000 miles. Got a great deal on it. Still getting used to the CVT tranny, but overall I'm very happy with my purchase. Really, anything would have been a step up from a 16 year old pickup, but I think I got pretty lucky with this Maxima. I'm hoping to get a least ten years out of her. Just crossing my fingers in hopes that I won't run into some of the issues that other 7th gen owners are having.

Oh, forgot to mention that this is actually my second Maxima. I actually owned an '88 model way back during my freshman year of college. Didn't care for that style, but it did get me through my first year of school. I ended up selling it to buy the truck.

Welcome aboard!

There really is an epidemic of inattentive drivers causing accidents all over the place. I barely had my 2010 six months before I was rear-ended. Four years before that it was a T-bone accident that totaled my 95' Camry.

I'm really paranoid about people hitting me from behind now. Unfortunately, there is really only so much defensive driving you can do.

I can only imagine. I've been in one accident in my life. I was nearly stopped on the freeway in a traffic buildup, and I watched as the big pickup behind me closed in without slowing down until the last second and rammed into me. Watched the whole thing through my rear-view and honestly now I wish I hadn't. Now almost a year later every time I look in my rear view while I'm having to brake harder than normal I fear that the driver behind me won't react fast enough and slow down as well. I'm not freaking out about it, but I am seriously super paranoid. Lol. Probably need counseling or something if I ever expect to get over it cuz it's a little ridiculous how worried I get sometimes. Anyway, thanks for letting me ramble.

Congrats on the purchase. Lots of maxima love here. Great group of people in these forums. And far more people who are happy with their cars than those who aren't, so that's always good. Any questions you may have, let us know. Happy to help. Welcome.
