Front Struts

I'm looking to replace the front struts on my 09 and i'm honestly having a lot of problems finding replacements outside of autozone. I wanted to see if i could get KYB's all around like i've used in the past. I have no issues finding KYB's for the rear. I'm looking for some recommendations if possible. I don't want to go to crazy as it needs to be a comfortable highway ride to work. I'm getting to old for the teeth loosening suspensions of my youth.

i dont know of any aftermarket ones that fit our car, most people replace with OEM or get coilovers (which is obviously a rougher ride)

Hey I'm in the same boat as you.

Check this site out.

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...n+%26+Steering

Apparently the part number is for the rear only # 34913

On their website it only list them for non electronic suspension.

Update:

I contacted KYB and at this time they only offer the rear shock for our cars ( OE struts – part number is 349139 for the rear right and left)

You will have to get the OE strut from Nissan.
in my opionon by the time you get these replace all the above and labour you will be at the cost of coils. I say f it sacrifice and get coils. I think I will go that options as I have the ability to raise and lower the car when it come to winter time, ans i don't need the car to be a plow..lol

A little while back when I was looking for struts for my Max I saw on RockAuto they had struts made by SACHS. I meant to contact the company but never got around to it. May be something to check out.

Autozone sells the same Sachs for the front. No way am i going to the dealership for anything that's not warranty related. I can do all the work myself. I'm not going to spend 1k on them replacing my struts. I'm disappointed that KYB doesn't do fronts but i'll live lol. Thanks for the info everyone.

To play devils advocate, you may want to at least price the parts out through the dealer. In many cases the couple of bucks more for o.e. parts will be well worth it. Just had a customer opt to put no name struts in his Altima. Two weeks later he asked why the car felt floaty. Without trying to sound too condescending i reminded him that it was $125 less to put in the no name struts. He got what he paid for. If you are looking to keep this car for a while just think of this. You got xyz miles on the o.e. struts. If you liked the struts and they worked well the answer is clear. If you were not happy with performance or ride quality then again the choice is clear. Choose wisely. Its an expensive fix if your not happy with what you choose.

Whats the sign that they need to be replaced? I have 117k on mine and so far have not noticed any performance issues that I can tell. On my 95 maxima, I put 266k on the rear OEM and never replaced them...thoughts?

The car becomes bouncy or floaty. You can test by bouncing each corner with body weight, and seeing if it returns immediately, or keeps going for a few more bounces.

Also, tires will wear out, very unevenly if you have worn shocks/struts.

They used to be 'lifetime' items. Then they started saying 100K replacement. Now many manuf. are recommending full replacement at 50k.

They will wear out faster if you all lowering springs.

Detecting worn struts for a person who is used to driving that vehicle can be tough. Suspension components usually go bad over time. The ride quality slowly degrades. The average person can't tell something is wrong until you actually perform the service then you get the AH HA moment and they realize how poorly the car was riding. Things to look for are obvious signs of fluid leakage from the struts, noise and rattling over bumps, poor tire wear, excessive bounciness and body roll. typically you will also see worn stabilizer links as a result of worn struts.

Saw on Eibach's website that they are looking for a 2013+ Maxima for testing. Hopefully it is for a set of pro dampers.

9 times out of 10 they will last much longer than 50k and and even 100K in most cases, usually on FWD cars the front will wear out faster than the rear. On my old 97 I replaced the fronts, but never had to replace the rear as they were still good at 127k before I traded it in.
