cvt problem

Hey noob here with a possible problem. i have a 2009 maxima with 57k on it. Yesterday after exiting the highway and coming to a stop I was having a hard time accelerating. The engine rpms would go up but the car only moved slowly. Has anyone else had this problem?

That was yesterday, are you having the same problem today? Were you using manual controls or was the car in D? How long did this problem last yesterday?

The CVT will go into limp mode if it gets overheated. That could of been the cause. Also your CVT is due for an oil change. If you bought this car used, that would be a good idea. How many miles have you put on it?

2500 miles. I was under the impression that limp mode would limit the rpms? It felt like i was feathering the clutch on a manual transmission.

I think you are right on the rpm's. One other thing, before you hit the road today, you should check the oil level of the CVT.

If it happens again today then take it to the dealership for a diagnosis. These things do fail and the good thing about the 09 max is that the CVT has a 10 year 120,000 mile warranty.

Sounds like a standard dealership response put into place when they began dealing with the 2013 Altima CVT's that were pooping all over the place.

You would think that they would at least take the time to check the fluid. Good luck and let us know how things go. Curious what the rest of us can expect if we ever have such an issue.

Mine never had a cel when I noticed some issues with it. I took it in & they replaced the valve body at first, then a little later, the cvt.

I had the V.B. replaced also and zero CEL. It was a TSB though so a CEL may not have applied.

The guy checked the fluid and said it looked fine. I asked if it needed changed and he said to leave it for now because i was having problems. If it happens again I will push for a new transmission, the guy told me they dont repair anything on them they just put a new one in. Its is hard taking my stuff to a dealer, I have always done my own work but I wouldnt mind having a new free transmission

update

Here is an update on my cvt problem. the car has seemed to be slow to go into gear from park, and there has been a little rumble when taking off slowly. Today when i started it i notice the ses light was on so i took it into the dealer. the shop could feel the rumble so put me in a rental and said they were ordering a transmission.

I have a 2009 Maxima that seems to have a slight shudder feeling at times when taking off. Just recently I had a catalytic converter replaced and maybe that plays a part in this because of the exhaust trying to breath. However, I do experience a slight shaking at speeds 0-20 mph other than that it seems to function fine. Also at times 40 mph or 60mph I feel I slight slip, but overall it accelerates fine. My right transaxle needs replacing which has a small leak which possibly could have something to do with these issues. And by the way it has 150000 miles on it, but this generation may be the best by far it's alot of these models on the road.

cvt issue

When im in traffic
stopping and going in it.
It seems like the rpms get stuck at 1 n 2 between 25-35mph
Like the car tries to maintain that gear speed when i take my foot off the peddle. But struggles to coast til the speed drops in a non smooth way. Sometimes even vibrate the car.

dealership reprogrammed it.
It worked then it came back.

Then they replaced the valve body on the cvt
That helped n fixed the issue.

but i still feel the non smooth transition from coasting to gassing in stop and go traffic.

Like gears should go up and down smoothly
Not stuggle to maintain a low gear speed.

Anyone else with this cvt issue???
