I wonder how the tranny is going to take the abuse. Looks good though.

I'm drooling... If it's reliable and the CVT can take it, I'll be eating ramen for a long long time to save for something similar eventually... Awesome!

Don't get why everyone has such little faith in the CVT. How many CVT failures have we heard of? Nissan must have confidence to extend warranty to 120,000 miles / 10 yrs. I personally think the transmission will outlast everything on these vehicles. I am a bigtime nutcase CVT lover! Lovin on the CVT ALWAYS!! Best transmission ever put in a vehicle...

No one else in my boat?

Late,
Trav

We unveiled this build today at the AAM open house meet; huge 7th gen turnout not sure how many of the pics will make it down to the forums but here is one of the best.

Nope, no one.

Sorry.

Congratulations OP!

If gears > CVT, then how come the 6th gen had way more transmission failures than the 7th gen has had? hmm....suspect.

There are concerns boosting anything aftermarket; we're going with low boost first and feeling it out. So far I'm seeing that the turbo spools at 2000 rpms so this thing is going to be always ready-to-go

I understand the failures are on automatics, but automatics are built using gears right?

Btw what's up with all the ads Maxima.org jeez? I can barely type a reply without a Home Depot ad blocking this box.

I think the turbo could be less abusive to the CVT vs. a supercharger as the majority of power should be realized in the mid to higher in RPM range. A bit of turbo-lag is probably a good thing...a bit less to shock the CVT.

I COMPLETELY agree Trav. People are so quick to shoot it down. Funny part is the CVT was tested in F1; it a FULL second faster than a conventional gearbox! Only reason they banned it was due to a loop hole from an old rule stating they must have a minimum of 4 gears...

Having fun here just sitting back and watching the comments roll in. Lots of love and lots of hesitation about the cvt. Everyone's talking like they "know" that dan's build will be good, or they "know" the tranny's gonna fail.

All I care to say is kudos to the innovator/guinea pig/fearless leader. Hope it all turns out well. No matter what happens, it's awesome to see someone take such a bold step.

I still don't get why no one has faith in the CVT! I want facts...what specifically is it that negates all the trust in this transmission? I have 100,000mi on my transmission and is has NOT lived an easy life. It runs flawlessly. I suspect the transmission will outlast everything else on this car.

The CVT failures that we have seen happen very early on (within the 1st 15-20,000 mi and usually earlier). The ones that last (which is 99% of them) are totally fine.

Add 100hp to them....and who knows what will happen. No one does, because no one has tried it...until now.

I really hope we are putting the power to the ground through the CVT on this turbo Max just so it can be proven that these transmissions are indestructible!

Trav

I love my car and I love my CVT! Although, my 2009 SV Sport/Tech CVT failed at 57k miles. It began to go limp on me sort of speak around 50k or so. I just rode it out until it started to throw CEL's and such. While my CVT was being replaced I drove a 2013 Pathfinder with a CVT in it. The truck was fun to drive but the CVT was garbage and it only had 6k on it. I can only speak from my own experiences but I do feel the Nissan CVT has some issues. Would it discourage me from buying another Nissan CVT product? Absolutely not! I understand you win some and you lose some and the sand applies to car buying. Nissan customer service as been awesome and the warranty has come to the rescue a few times. At the end of the day, the Maxima is a luxury vehicle with a mid grade price tag.

This isn't the first Nissan with a CVT transmission that's been boosted.. You should do some research.

Ghotz, was a tranny cooler added?
