Anyone running 5% tint up front?

I had the 5% everywhere setup on my last car (white ext. on tan leather int.) and it worked great because the front seats would reflect a lot of windshield light so while it was dark, the average person (or cop) wouldn't think twice to look unless they really wanted to (I think I was pulled over twice and cited once in like three years).

This car....a little different maybe. Black interior would suck up any light buuuuut I have the panorama roof so I am thinking if I sense danger I just press the button and have light coming in front and back to make things looks less evil.

Just curious if anyone else has experience with this. The place I called will do all of them for $149; the other place could do 15 % up front but would cost more. The $149 place only offers 5,20,35. I want them all to be the same; big fan of the uniform look. Plus I'm up front and don't want to be seen!

TIA

That just seems insanely unsafe. What is the brand and/or material of the tint? Make sure it is not a metallic tint as it can negatively affect radio and satellite reception, and will render your V1 useless.

Hahahaha I totally get what you're saying but it seems as if you're trying to convince yourself when you really know the answer. Believe me when I tell you: I get it. I also agree with Daaavid about the safety issue; there is a dude who works in my building with a newer, sporty, white C-Class Benz coupe with the pano roof and rear diffuser, etc. and I want to say confidently that he's at either 15% or 5% all around the car and it really does look so sexy. So sexy. I be lying if I didn't say that I sometimes wonder how the heck he drives around at night, though.

In a perfect world, I would do 20% on the sides and back and 35% on the windshield. I had to settle for 35% on sides and back only because I don't want to give the fuzz a reason, ya know?

Obviously you know the cops and their tendencies in your area better than I would, but with the way they are in my neck of the woods I just feel as if anything lower than 35% is asking for it.

Here's a suggestion: talk to your eye doctor or find an eye doctor that can write something up that essentially talks about your "sensitive eye issue" (wink wink) and maybe that's a loophole. I tried to do it with mine but my guy ended up being a squid and pretty much shut me down on it before I could even ask in a suggestive manner. Although I haven't had to call in any favors yet (knock on wood), it's a good thing I play hockey with a lot of cops in different departments, state and local, throughout the state.

Good luck.

I'd go with 20% as someone mentioned above just to play it safe. The opening the roof "trick" won't suffice as you probably won't see the officer before they see you and in the event you do opening the windows/sunroof will only draw attention to yourself as people who like to ride n smoke usually like to put their windows down as soon as they see the police in order to vent the smoke in case they get pulled over. Either way you're taking a risk but I agree 5% looks damn good on our cars.

i have 15% all the way around. i was gonna go 5 but since my interior is all black it makes my 15 almost look like 5 anyways. haven't had any problems with Johnny law yet.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I have heard of the eye doctor trick before but I want to say it does not work in my state (Missouri). I think I researched it before off of some advice. My buddy in Michigan did it but lives in Canada basically (read: boonies) so the law is all over a big BMW w 5% the way round :0. I think he gets out of most of them but gets pulled over a lot.

I am thinking I will do 5 back, 15 front. The place that can do that combo is more at $169 but very reputable. I don't buy sales stuff but they have the tint cut based on dimensions in a computer (guy who did my Lexus based it on outside part of windows and I had a lot of specs post-facto) and their website is full of Lambo, Ferrair. Range Rover, etc., cars they have done so at least the tinter will have some respect to a lil ol' Maxima

Seems like a good price. What brand is the tint? 3M has a lifetime warranty on their tints I believe, and you can bring it into any authorized 3M installer if it bubbles so there's no need to worry about the original installer going out of business and having your tint bubbling away. This is just an example, so the increase in price may justify for other things such as peace of mind.
