Intermittent Passenger Airbag

Before I take my Maxima to the dealership and ask them to diagnose this, I wanted to know if anyone on the forum is experiencing similar issues. My 2014 Maxima was bought brand new, and currently has 1900 miles on it but this issue has been present since the day I got it about 2 and a half months ago.

The passenger airbag is not always on when there is a passenger (85+ lbs) in the passenger seat. The passenger airbag light under the right air conditioning vent on the center stack will be on and off at random times during a journey at various speeds. This shows that the passenger airbag is intermittent. Regardless, the airbag should be on when there is a passenger present, correct? This is not the case with my Maxima as the light will be on and then off for brief moments and sometimes up to 30+ min. Having the passenger readjust their seating position makes no difference by the way, nor does restarting the car. Nevertheless, that is very inconvenient to restart the car in hopes to solve the issue, especially if you are already traveling on the highway.

Just wondering if anyone on the forum has experienced and SOLVED the issue? I see that there are several posts/threads over it, but no solution was made.

Bump on this thread:

Brought my vehicle to the dealer, service tech told me that Nissan did a recall on this issue and by the time I purchased my Maxima, the recall was already performed otherwise the vehicle would not have been sold to me per Nissan instructions. They also clarified that the weight limit is 105 pounds, and seating position definitely plays a role into it. Salesmen told me that other vehicles were affected including the new Pathfinder. If the issue comes again, then they said to bring the vehicle back.

I am having the same problem with my 13. Took it in last Friday to have the part installed that the dealer ordered to fix the problem. The light came on all weekend every time my wife was sitting in the front seat. The dealer tech also took the time to dent the Maxima threshold plate and didn't bother to mention it. Looks like I'll have a few more trips back to the dealer.

Do you happen to have a copy of the work order for the part they installed? Also, has the new part resolved the issue? The dealership's system was currently down so they could not run the VIN on my vehicle to check for open recalls, but the service tech did mention that my particular '14 should have had it done so I should not worry.

When I take mine in I'll have to get that looked at as well. My airbag light flashes off and on when I have small items in the seat such as my tablet and other little things I keep on the seat.
