2011 Max CAI Options

So, I have been patiently looking around for the best CAI option.
I have seen various brands (AFE, Stillen, R2C, Injen, AEM).

So far haven't found a "true" CAI, they all seem to be various versions of a under-the-hood intake options.

Probably don't want to get involved enough for a DIY CAI.

Is there a general consensuses of as which of the above is the best application?

Thanks for sharing, this board is a wealth of knowledge!

I think they all would give u the same exact results, but if I had to choose one it would be the r2c

Cai/sri

I personally went with the R2C because of the design of it. I like how its isolating the filter and shielding it away from the engine heat...plus it uses the factory air duct to stuff that box full of cold air. I looked for about 6 months before I decided on the r2c and price wise, its much cheaper than the rest. almost $100.

I am very happy to have chosen the r2c intake. it gives the exhaust note a deeper sound...

Both the R2C and AEM look good IMO. I'm leaning towards the R2C, it has the appearance of OEM, clean. Also, the price is right. A couple more days of research before pulling the trigger, so far the R2C is looking good.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've got a K & N and I took all the plastic crap off in front since it is truly restricting airflow into the engine bay. R2C looks good but you're right about a true CAI. Run an extension towards the drivers brake duct and cut a hole for a better cold air. There are a lot of opinions in this forum if you search for them as well. They really don't increase much maybe a little throttle gain at the low end but more about the sound and PSHP (pants seat horsepower) K&N looks a little nicer than some of the others but that's my humble opinion!

I've been running a Stillen intake for a while. I bought it because I got a nice deal on it. All of these intakes are going to be the same...add a more aggressive sound to the car. Get the one that you can get the best deal on.

the R2C and the AEM are both good candidates cause you can heat wrap that shield and see pretty decent temps, even when idling. i was pretty surprised at how effective the R2C was with some heat tape

How did the install go?
How do you like it?
Any other "deals" to be had?

Thanks.

I installed my R2C last night and I absolutely love it. fit very nicely. can tell someone engineered it properly because its a very tight fit and sits snug. also the engine roar is awesome. deff a huge plus now. highly recommend it.

Love the look of that Stillen. But it's almost twice the price...

I've gotten a few compliments when I've taken the car in for service. I picked it up in the classifieds & it came with a recharge kit. I cleaned it up & oiled it as soon as I got it. Keep an eye out in there, you can pick up some good deals at times. I paid a lot less than what it sells for.

Pulled the trigger on the R2C today. They are all pretty much the same, so looks like the R2C is a good value.

As you suggest, I'll look at options to further insulate the heat shield.
I have seen aluminum looking heat tape and I'm wondering if there is something more effective available?

Thanks for sharing.

Ordered the RC2 CAI Friday received/installed Wednesday.
Here's what you get for $200USD delivered:

https://maxima.org/forums/attachment...1&d=1409230534

Impressions: Had a place racing CAI on my 4th generation (true CAI in the fender well) and this is much quieter that that. Nice mellow drone/growl when the engine is working. Performance increase? I don't think so, I'll need to run a few tanks of gas the see if gas mileage is affected. Install was straight forward and fittage was good. The filter is MASSIVE and looks to be top quality, definitely more flow/filter area than stock. I live in NE Ohio so I'll leave this in for winter and probably go back to stock setup next spring unless I figure out how to mod this for a true CAI application.

Absolutely, that's exactly what I'm looking to do. A REAL CAI.
Not crazy about moving the battery to the trunk, but really don't see any way around it. Can't find a thread about that (moving battery), have any idea where I could find such a thread?

Thanks for the info!

Never got around to writing it, but you mainly just need to find a way to brace the battery in the trunk with a bracket or something, the Summit Racing relocation kit was trash. I got a custom Optima bracket off eBay and put my Optima back there. As far as wiring it, it's a 12v wire up to the front, and a ground to the chassis. I have a fuse in-line on the 12v as close to the battery as I could get it.
