HID Conversion kit - Legality
HID Conversion kit - Legality
Did a 6000K Morimoto HID upgrade several day ago.
I have not been flashed so far, also drove for about 1/2 mile behind a local police officer w/o issue.
I ran across this article, which kinda made me wonder if I'm doing the right thing.
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...nversions.html
Also, I have not seen my car in incoming traffic (plan to have my daughter do a drive by in my car to have a look).
Has anyone been pulled over/ticketed for this type of upgrade?
If so, what were the consequences?
The link seems to indicate the only way to LEGALLY do this is to replace the headlight housings with the OEM designed for HID.
Probably should have asked these questions BEFORE doing the conversion
Thanks for sharing.

You are correct. The housing and/projection base are made for how the light reflects out. You would need to change the housings like you said. Otherwise not only is it bright in all the wrong places and dangerous but you are losing the whole point of a brighter more focused light. I read about them as well a while back. Good luck and you could find housings on eBay or other places to replace your halogen base.
Your car already had projector housings in it so do not worry because it has a cut off plate built in it. The article you posted is talking about putting an HID kit in a non projector housing which has no cut off plate which in turns blinds everybody in oncoming traffic and in front of you. It is the guys with big trucks with non projector housings that think it is cool to put a cheap 8000K HID kit blinding everybody on the road. You are ok with your kit you installed.

Yes, you don't need to get another housing for your HID bulbs. im not sure if the projectors have a plate that will diffuse the light or not, but removing them would make the beam just as focused, but only brighter and light up more of the road. I doubt any cop will pull you over for headlights unless they are some stupid color (example dark blue or purple). I had 8000k in my old car and never once was bothered for them. Just bought 6000k bulbs for my Maxima and plan on doing a headlight rebuild and kind of interested to see if the lenses have a block off plate. Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I think you're safe with those.

So the operative phrases are "projector housing and cut off plate", good deal.
