Engine Pinging

So I let my sister drive my car & when she filled it up, she filled it with 89 octane gas instead of 93 that I always use. After she did when I cut my car off the pinging from the engine was very loud & noticeable. So I drove my car til basically I was about 10 miles away from empty. I filled it back up with 93 & the some of the pinging went away but it's still there just not as loud.

Anybody else know away to get rid of the pinging fully?

If you are talking about the ping you get driving under load, say up a hill, then you could add a bottle of 104+ octane from your local auto supply, or drive a little softer until you can top up the tank with your favourite 93 octane.

If it is the heat pinging AFTER the engine shuts off, in your driveway, this noise is perfectly normal and no amount of octane will affect it whatsoever. I suspect that because your baby was abused by the wrong grade of fuel, your ears are much more sensitive to any change in normal characteristic. I swear that each time my wife or boys drive my cars, they introduce a new rattle, quirk to my ride!

Hope this helps?

Id try some Marvel mystery oil mixed in your next fill up apparently there are testimonials saying that its solved all kinds of engine problems/noises. Good luck!

Usually, the pinging you hear after shutting off the car is nothing more than metal bits cooling down. If that's all you hear, I wouldn't worry.

If the car is pinging while running, then you may have a bigger issue.

Thanks for the info!! It was definitely after I shut the engine off. I guess I never paid attention to it before when I brought it because I never heard it til after she put 89 octane in it.

Yes it's the engine oil drops hitting the bottom of the pan and the engine cooling down which is completely normal .
