Weird starting issue

2010 Maxima. 71k. Only happens when it's super cold here in the North East. And doesn't happen all the time.

When starting the car it was cranking VERY weak. Not like a weak battery start. Cranks very weak for the 10sec or so setting. I said screw it and put an Optima red top in. Very strong crank. But when it's cold (sometimes) it feels almost like it could be an electrical issue even after the new battery. When it's cranking there is no response with the pedal (probably supposed to be that way anyway). This sound familiar to anybody?

Could be your starter. You can get it tested. I would not worry about it unless it started happening in normal weather.

Is this the problem? No response from the pedal? I'm not sure what you mean. Like you're trying to pump the gas pedal and...?

Did it again. 29 degrees out. So its not bone chilling cold. I wish I could explain exactly what its been doing off and on. The car is cranking(brand new Optima Red Top), but its not a very hard crank at all. And its not a weak crank similar to if your battery was weak. Almost like the car is shuddering/vibrating when its cranking. It will continue for the time set for cranking. Then Ill try again and get the same result. Then again and towards the end of the crank it will start. Ill shut the car off and then it will start very strong.

Hopefully this description is a little more descriptive....

Just how long will the car will crank for if it doesn't start up, once you press and release the start button. Even in cold weather my car starts up within one second once the button is pushed. If you have to go through a couple of cranking cycles to get your car started then there is something wrong with your fuel/air/spark systems.

It Cranks for however long Nissan has set it to crank. It's about 10 seconds. I'm leaning towards an electrical issue. Maybe I'll just bring it to the dealer and talk to them about it.

I'd get it to the dealer asap. And if u can leave it there overnight have a early morning appointment while it's still cold out and car hasn't run yet so they don't try it and say there's no issue if it starts right away. As u said it will once it's been running. I'd have to guess it's a fuel delivery issue maybe a fuel pump or some stupid useless sensor.

Yeah take it to the dealer and leave it there overnight for them to try it bright and early. The car should not be taking 10 seconds to start, ever.
