My maxima is at the shop now. I know the service manager so he brought me into the shop and I talked with his best tech and even he didn't have any idea why I'm getting an odd buzzing/winding noise coming from my steering column. My maxi has no power tilt or telescopic option and apparently this sound is common with the tilt motor going bad. But I'm also hearing the noise on occasion while I'm driving. Does it happen with the climate control turned completely off? I wonder if that is a vent "mixing" motor? Any noises with ignition on car not running or does it only happen when you actually start the car?

It usually happens every first start of the day, then it's random from there on. It's when I'm starting the car, but I have heard it when I was turning the wheel while driving. the climate control is off. It's 100% comming from the steering column. I actually caught another video of it as I was starting to drive off from a parking space. Sounds exactly the same as the video I posted except car was already started, put in reverse and started to drive and turn the wheel and out of nowhere I heard it.. It's very random but seems to be getting worse as days go by. Waiting to hear from my buddy at Nissan, sure hope he has an answer this issue has me worried.

Dealer just called me. Bad Steering lock motor. Getting replaced under my extended warranty. What a relief

I have a similar sound, but it's when I turn the temp on the climate control up or down.
