When to replace Serpentine belt / Timing Belt / Belt Tensioner

Has anyone replace the belt/timingbelt/belt tesioner on their Maxima's? I have 82,500 K on my 2010 and notice that a low screeching sound was coming from my engine on Monday (4-20-2015). The belt is original, as is the timing belt and tension. Has anyone experience this problem? If so what is the best replacement?

You're belt was probably just high! LOL (pardon the lame 420 joke as I don't condone belts, hoses or anything or anyone else using illegal drugs)

Now, to answer your question that seems about right. 80k+ seems more than reasonable for the life of a normal belt. I'm at 66k on my 2009 and my dealer suggested I replace my belt in the near future

I always replace that belt on any car I own @ 60K miles.

A belt that is 5 plus years old with 82K is most likely cracking and dry rotting

Since 60k for me is at least 7 years I always let the dealer do it.

I'm at 130k on all original parts. Considering doing it soon just for peace of mind.

Yup. I am sitting at 145,000mi and have original belt.

BTW....there is no timing belt on these cars. We have timing chains that should last the life of the engine. The SERPENTINE or ACCESSORY belt does need periodic replacement. I'll let yall know when mine snaps. LOL. I get a light "whistling" noise when I first start it as of about a month ago...maybe it is time.

True story, I had the accessory belts changed on my 2002 before 2008 and did not get them changed again until at least 2013 maybe 2014. I didn't have low miles. In fact the alternator went out but not the belt driving it.

+1 on the timing chain. Been that way since possibly the 5th gen maybe even earlier.

Yes, I replaced mine around 250,000 miles on my 09 (belt, tensioner, and both pulleys) purely as a precaution. Of note, I went thru a few belts brands within 5000 miles (gates and autozone equivalents) before I tried a Dayco 5070670 belt. It is slightly shorter than the others and havent had a problem in the 30,000 miles since.

This was a (timely) question for me as I'm currently at 90k miles and about to start buying my cvt fluid for my next change at 100k miles.

I was debating if I should have my serpentine belt changed at that time as a precaution.

Reading some of your responses, I more than likely will do it now because the high temps here in the desert tend to make rubber parts fail way sooner than expected.

Thanks for the help.

^^ Haven't replaced mine with my 2009 @ 90k miles. Is there anything I should be aware of or looking for?

Noise from the tensioner and excessive play. The belt should be fairly tight with very little movement when you push on it. Also, look for cracking, peeling and overall signs of the rubber drying out.

Thanks for the great response guys.

So I just called my dealer and they said it would cost me $167 to replace belt. Is that a fair price or just take it to cousin Joe?
