Automatic steering wheel issue

Hey guys,
Last night as I pull into my driveway and shut the car off the steering wheel automatically raises up in order to make entering and exiting the vehicle easier. Well it was making a weird noise kind of like the motor was turning but the steering wheel wasnt going up. It was a kind of start and stop sound. Eventually when I manually raised the steering wheel using the button it got to its highest point and the noise stopped. But then this morning when I drove the car to the train and went to get out it did it again. Has anyone ome across something like this with their Max? I'd love to resolve it without going to the stealership.

My guess would be that when the motor starts making funny noises, it won't be too long before it fails completely and needs to be replaced. I actually disabled this feature, because I didn't find it useful and it's not exactly cheap to fix(like $800 at the stealership). You can do a search for "steering wheel motor" to find some older threads that may be useful to you.

How did you disable it? I dont really need the steering wheel to move in order to get into and out of the car. I never seem to have any success when using the search feature on this site.

Assuming you have navigation, you can disable it via settings -> comfort. If you only have the amber screen, my understanding is that you can't disable it.

Try searching, but I think it can be disabled by pulling a fuse.
