Viper Smart Start

So I recently had the SmartStart module added to my Viper alarm system.
The best feature for me is being able to check the status of my car using the smartphone app. I also like being able to receive an email and/or text message if the alarm on your car is triggered--- a pretty neat feature when you are out of range of the 2-way remote that come with your alarm/remote start system.

The app itself has worked very consistently for me-- it works off the cellular networks so as long as you get a cellular signal, it works. I have found that if you don't close the app after you send a command to your car, it sometimes goes into a sleep mode so that when you send another command later, it sometimes doesn't communicate with the car and you get an error message.
I just make sure to close the app after each time I use it instead of keeping it open all the time and it has worked flawlessly since.

I was on the fence on getting it due to some of the mediocre reviews. While I was getting it installed, the installer said that he heard that Viper/Directed was coming out with a new version that works better in parking garages, etc. He wasn't sure if it was a brand new module or just an upgrade to their cellular network...

The Viper 5706 Remote Start/ Alarm System with 2-way remote was purchased last November for about $738.00-- including installation. Also included the immobilizer module required for Maximas and they also installed a tilt sensor I purchased elsewhere which will detect if the car is jacked up to remove a wheel.
The SmartStart Module was added this year-- $150 (included installation).
Work was done at the Best Buy store in Downers Grove. Ask for Leo the installer-- he knows his stuff...
