All this 8th Gen hype..

So I swung by my local Nissan dealer to see what all this 8th gen hype is about and to finally see it in person. First off I didn't even expect them to have any since its such a hot item apparently. Wrong. There were 4 sitting front row and my initial thoughts were holy crap thats hideous i hope thats not it....After speaking with the salesman and checking one out in the show room I proceeded to take it for a test drive because he was bragging about the "sport mode" The interior of the car is absolutely gorgeous and pretty much perfect IMO. Car rides smooth but sport mode is nothing crazy and Im pretty sure my 7th pulls harder. Needless to say if they could stick that interior in the 7th it would be a match made in heaven. I will be sticking with mine until Im forced to buy a new car. Anyone else check it out and have any other opinions?!

Agree. It's funny to me how some people drink the punch regardless and are all over this new generation, and good for them, I guess.

As we are finding out, the dealers are not budging on price, so for a higher-end 8th gen model you're paying on the wrong side of $35k (more like closer to $40k) before negotiating cash/trade-ins, etc. Pass. Even well before the 8th gen came out everyone knew the 7th gen was a $41k or $42k sticker that you could take between $5k and close to $10k right off of the top.

So, at the end of the day you're looking at a new generation that is marginally better in performance, it does have a much better interior and the exterior is questionable at best. The jury is still out for me on the exterior until I see colors other than white.

For me, the Maxima is not worth $40,000. Period. For that kind of money I would rather spend the extra $$$ for an Infiniti and look at payments over 72 months instead of the usual 60 months and keep the vehicle mostly stock instead of modding it out.

Just my $0.02

People are paying $10K more for the 2016 than I paid for my 2014 which I bought new in 2013. They pay a hefty premium to be the first to own one. Granted the 2016 is a very nice looking vehicle but there is no way a Maxima is worth over $40K. In a few months the price will drop substantially.

This is 100% truth. Bought the 2006 in DEC 2008. Bought the 2011 in DEC 2013 ..both cars were loaded and had mileage in the mid 20k range and I never paid even close to those numbers. I just don't believe in shelling out that kind of money for a nissan when you can get one 2 years later for 22k-24k. There are plenty of other cars that you can spend 40k on and be set in luxury. It won't be new but it will be cert used, warranty and nice.

It does not appear that they are flying off the lots judging by dealer inventory. Probably was a backlog of buyers for the very first ones and now dealers are holding the price line and sales are slowing until there are discounts and incentives (as there always is with Maximas).

I too test drove the 8th Gen and not very impressed. I guess I'm disappointed they are still using the 3.5 and havent stepped it up to the 3.7 but I guess thats for Infinity! I got soo annoyed how the salesman said it's got more power! yeah like 4 or 5 more horsepower! like a previous person said I pretty sure my 7th gen is faster! lol nogo!

hahaha. I don't think there is any jealousy here. You don't buy a maxima at that price point unless you really like the car. I think the point is what you are being sold on, as an 8th gen buyer, as a cut above the 7th gen for that price point when in reality you can get a new 7th gen for at least 10k less at this time. Looks aside, if someone took a new well appointed 7th gen and sat the 8th gen side by side with comparable features, that isn't worth a 10-11k difference. You cant argue with that logic. I think its a great car, but i don't like the body and it isn't worth 41k to me. That's far left of jealousy. Now when nissan dealers are back on planet earth with their pricing, and you like that body style, then there is something discussion worthy. We aren't there yet.

I plan on buying a maxima in feb of next year hopefully a used one will have a much nicer price than that 40k price tag.

I like the interior and the styling but the that sticker price, no thanks. I would rather spend 35-40K for a used Cadillac CTS-V.
