Navigation Unit

Hello guys,

I recently purchased a 2010 Nissan Maxima S, without the navigation. I want to change it and after a few searches on eBay, I found one. I want to know if it's possible. Does anyone have the same issue and how did they resolved it?

Agreed that, except with a slight mod, swap half the amber LCD into the bottom or somewhere else readable, so you can still see temps, modes, and fan levels.

That way there is no need to glove box anything.

When you say you found one Ebay, you mean a stock navigation unit or something else? It might be easier to just get an aftermarket head unit with Nav on it. Personally, I'm not a fan of stock head units no matter how many bells and whistles. The dealers usually overcharge for their incentives, and you're married to them.

It might sound bananas to some people, but I'd honestly prefer a car come without a radio at all; just an AC/Heater. I realize that means seem odd.

Or at least not tie all the controls into the radio so replacing it wouldn't be such a hassle. Like the old days, a radio was a radio, nothing more.

Exactly, I agree with you and Squid. It's a headache trying to figure out how to replace this NAV/radio in my 09. I want a pioneer aftermarket because it would be so much better, but i'm stuck with the stock because someone at Nissan thought it was such a good idea to combine the ac controls with the audio controls. Why wouldn't the stock Navi unit work? It's plug and play. Yeah you may need some extra wiring like satellite radio and a few others. Buy in theory it shouldn't be a problem.

I also did the tablet, with griffin iTrip Bluetooth for aux and survivor case with my iPad mini 3. I got this idea from another Maxima owner, don't know his name but he's on YouTube if you search for iPad mount in Maxima.

All of the wiring is different. Can't even plug it in. You would need the full harness to install the factory nav, and that isnt cheap.
The only thing that is the same, is that it goes in the same hole in the dash. That's it.

So true I tried to downgrade from the stock nav to install an aftermarket and I couldn't even do that because the harness was different

Just being the guy I am I just love having an OEM Navi. I understand you need to change AC unit, the screen, and the dials. Can anyone send me a link on harness I may need when installing a OEM Navi on a 2014 S Model. Much appreciated!
