P0101 Error Code (2011 Maxima SV)

Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and can't wait to take on my first OBD2 error code and see what I can do to fix it.

Symptoms:
1. Service Engine Soon (SES) light comes on for a few days
2. SES turns off for a few days
3. SES is now on again and continuing

The car runs perfectly fine. none of the described symptoms of P0101 are seen. Therefore, I am a bit stuck on what I should try before I replace the MAF since the MAF Sensor is so expensive

Tried methods so far
1. Cleaned the Mass Airflow Sensor with MAF cleaner and changed the air filter. Will give it a few days to see if SES turns off.

Tomorrow I will try cleaning the throttle body with MAF Cleaner.

I am holding off on going to dealer because they were going to charge $100 for plugging in the OBD2 scanner... But I would like to reset it to see if it will go away and come back again.

So, what should I try next?

Man that is something else! I was just about to post about this. Same thing happened to me. I disconnected the battery then it went away for about a month then reappeared. Went to dealer and code was P0101 MAF. They performed an ECM reprogram, ( NTB12-051J) they tried to charge me but, I said hey look under my extended warranty pal. Funny I I heard it the whole time I was there.
Well Mr, whoever you this and that done.
For me it was rear brake pads ( they where at3mm). Funny how the rear wear out faster on Maximas- at the tune to 199.00. Then flush out brake fluid and power steering fluid at 129.00 each. How did a simple stop almost turn into close to 500.00 buck. Boy it works on some but not me

This code also appears when I had my cold air intake on, but haven't had it on for two years.

I don't have extended warranty, so I'm afraid they'll charge me to perform an ECM reprogram.

I just called my dealer and they said that it is covered under 8 year / 80k (ballpark) warranty for ECM reprogram. I will make an appointment and keep you guys posted.

I'd advise against that. You risk a high rpm.

Mine showed up the 3rd time in less than 2 months (after clearing the code). So this warrantee is standard for the 7th Gen? Await your update.

I know this thread is probably dead by now but I'm getting something similar. I've had no end to my SES light coming on and off since i've had my 2012 maxima. I had the issue detected $100 to hook it up then another $100 to clean the MAF. light came on again, unfortunately so I purchased and ODBII bluetooth connector from Amazon $19.00 and it reads that I have the P0101 error code again. Is this something that a regular Joe can replace? fuel consumption has gone up a little? any suggestions would be helpful. But i do like saving myself $80 on the assessment of the error.

Cheers,

Yeah well i'm not a mechanic and I didnt know prior to taking it in. All i knew was that the service engine soon light was on. He handed me the bill... then i go curious which lead me to purchase the error code reader and check things myself.

Do you know where exactly, I am hearing a whirring on the maxima (temperature got hotter) and on the murano forums they say its normal.

But I would be interested to see where yours was...

Anyone have a step by step on how to clean maf sensor? Just remove intake and spray directly into sensor?

Disconnect it, spray and make sure it is dry before you reconnect it.

I am also getting the P0101 code. On my code reader it lists it twice, one says "permanent" and will not go away when I clear codes. Anyone know what that is all about?

Anyone have the text of the NTB12-051J bulletin?

Thanks!
