Sticky melting dash on 2011 ...Anyone else?

Anyone else have this occur to their 7th gen?

I have noticed it getting worse over the last 2 months. I thought Nissan fixed this issue!

As you probably know, the melting dashboard happens to Nissans & Infinitis in places with high heat and humidity like Florida, Georgia, south Texas, etc. There is even a class action lawsuit going to trial this summer but it only includes 2008 and 2009 Altimas I believe. Unfortunately, this problem is not limited to Altimas or even 2008 and 2009 model years. I'm not aware of a good solution. Sorry.

Why not spend 30 bucks get a good windshield screen? Or in addition a little more get some weather tech window visors and keep windows cracked?

I have weather tech window visors and i live in Florida. They don't help. Since hot air rises the heat stays in. Windshield Screen is what really works for me. It's too late if it's already "melting/sticky". I heard of this problem with the Altima. I'm looking at a video on YT and I do recall that this happened to the vents on my 00 Maxima.

How hot does the outside temperature have to be to start the meltdown?

I don't know how hot it has to be but it seems to be more of a "wet sauna" than a dry sauna thing. It is the Hot AND HUMID condition that seems to make this occur. The weather tech deflectors didn't help a bit (although I still got soaked during our summer rains as the waves of rain seem to come from all directions at times and would get past these devices.) Fortunately, It is only impacting mine right above the color screen (where I would sometimes mount a Bluetooth portable speaker for road-trips where I wasn't the only passenger.)

Sticky Dashboard

I have a 2011 Maxima, I purchased new on 5/1/2011. I noticed about 7 months ago my dashboard started becoming shiney looking and sticky to the touch. My car isn't a garage kept car, but I've always used a windshield shade to keep the sun & heat off my dash. Apparently, this dosen't help. It's like my dashboard is slowly melting away! It's getting to the point now where it's causing a glare in direct sunlight and making seeing the road harder now. I just purchased a 2016 Nissan Maxima Platnium so hopefully, I'll unload this 7th gen soon. Oh, and I only used a damp cloth to clean it in the past, no chemicals, etc. Otherwise, it's been a worry free, great car!

Maybe the combination and moisture and the southern sun drying it off is causing a chemical reaction. I never use water to clean the dash just meguires... it doesnt get dirty so i never really have to wipe the whole thing down. Ultimately were not sure what material the dash is made of. Its soft and nice though!

Thumbs down Maxima melting dash

Maxima 2011 also has a sticky melting dash at 70,000. Dealer said the only solution is to replace the dash. The glare is terrible.
This is a known problem with Altima's, unfortunately the Maxima is not covered under the class action suit.

That's really weird, and now I am starting to hate my max I just went through hell with this car and now this dash thing the cherry on top. I have a 14 but my dash is pretty dull.

My 2010 Max, purchased new, has this problem -- the material is sticky, disintegrating, and cracking around the edges. I just broke 100K miles. My interior is in excellent shape, so needless to say, this dash literally coming apart at the edges is a major disappointment.

Has anybody actually gotten a price for replacing the dash? I'd like to keep this car for a while yet.

I'm in Gainesville, Fl -- my car sits in a carport. If parked outside, it's almost always between sunrise and noon.

Fortunately, on my 2010 I've never experienced this. And when I lived in California at Fort Irwin for a few years I was able to park in a garage. I found an interior shop there that did custom interior work. I know guys who had severely cracked dashes and the shop body worked it in filler, primed, sanded, and then painted it. I've also seen dashes that were leather wrapped. They cost a little bit more, but you get a custom dash that is still OE to the car. I'm sure if you asked around at car shows or did a google search you could find someone who does that type of work.

Sticky Dash solution

Here is what I found during my search for a solution. But I have not tried this. One person who posted about it said it worked. but they used the spnge appplicator instead of a roller. Would seema roller would work better and maybe a extra fine art brush for thos tight areas. Has anyone tried this for their sticky dash issue?

Here is the guy that tried it as he shows pictures of the before and after. if I was to try this, I would use a good roller and a fine art brush that is extra soft for thos tight aeas that you can'tget to wth a roller.

This looks like a really good alternative to what I was thinking. I personally would go the leather wrapped route, but this works too.
