Buy or stay away

hi guys, new here and have been searching for a 7th gen maxima to buy for a little while. had been told to try to avoid the 09-10's. i found a 2011 and just wanted to get some opinions.
2011 maxima sv, clean title, no accidents, clean car fax, 2nd owner, the car is in amazing shape inside and out. new tires. 129,000 miles and has all services records and is asking $8,500
the mileage is the only part that really concerns me. i've always owned hondas and acuras and the amount of miles is nothing on them.

I've owned a 09 SV sport since 2010 and have had no problems. Normal maintenance is the only reason it's ever been to the dealership. I think why people say to stay away from the 09/10 models is that Nissan extended the CVT warranty to 10yr/120000 miles, so the word is the cvt's are less reliable. I don't believe it.

The one you are looking at sound like a good deal at that price since all the maintenance records are available. That amount of mileage wouldn't concern me as there are a number of members here with a lot higher and they are still running great. If the CVT fluid hasn't been changed between 100k and 120k it needs to be done.

Good luck with the car if you decide to buy.

yeah that's the main reason i had heard to stay away from the 09-10's was due to cvt troubles. i've seen some pretty good deals on those models as well. i'm going to go check out the 2011 in person either tomorrow or sunday. i just wanted to make sure others have had good long term success with them and the mileage before dropping 8-9k on one. thanks for the reply

I have 2009 with only 52,000. I've never had a single issue with the car.
Contact me if ur interested in it. I may be selling it. Inside and out it's a 10 in condition

also I had a friend who had a 2009 also with 160k before he traded it in with little to no issue.
The story thst 09/10 have isues is crap.

I have 376,000 miles on my 09 and CVT is rock solid.

I also have an 09. A couple things I'm not fond of that changed with later models is:
1. No Bluetooth streaming for music - only phone calls.
2. No usb input in center console, it is a Nissan specific plug with a cable that has the old 30 pin apple plug on it.

Those are two minor things, and if you find a good deal on a 2009/10 I wouldn't let that stop you. If you get one with the oem 18" rims, I personally like the look of the early 7th gens better....but that and the grille and lights all changed in there somewhere too.

But really no issues to speak of - I have just over 135k on mine now.

Too much $$$, take A trip to NY or a big city where Maximas are every where .....here's an example that still has the cvt warranty https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/c...375871930.html

Also...the 09 is the best CVT IMO. Some are on original CVT with over 300K.....but treat it right.....Drain and fill every 30k, don't launch it at every light like its stolen, when shifting hold the brake and wait till it shifts gear, don't neutral bomb it and do burnouts......most of those negative reviews are from people who have problems for a reason. Nobody goes and gives good reviews when the car is fine.

There is something to be said for a well cared for maintained car, but still, never pay over bluebook. Ideally you'll get it for under. The only time you pay over if there's custom work on the car that you think is worth paying for. High end rims. Sub or aftermarket radio that's staying. After that, it's also about the maintenance. A car that has new brakes new tires, new hoses, perhaps a new starter or AC compressor, and looks good feels good is going to get the top end of that BB. So go to KBB or Edmunds do the research of residual value, then take all that other stuff in consideration. Because to get a "deal" on a car that needs things like tires, trans flush, new plugs, whatever, is going to cost you more then a well maintained car.

thanks for all the replies guys. i had ran across a 2009 SV with the sport package, panoramic roof, fully loaded that was pretty mint on the exterior besides one scratch and the interior was in great shape, only 104k miles, car was originally from new york. everything was great until you cranked it up and drove it. as soon as the car started it had all sorts of rattling from the heat/ac blend door, other dash rattles, and the roof glass sounded like it was about to fall in on you on every bump.. the transmission felt pretty funny, the shocks were completely shot. the previous owner definitely didn't cut that car any slack at all, it must have had a hard life. so i passed on that one and ended up picking up a 2011 SV on a decent deal and am completely satisfied so far. so now i'm a 7th gen owner

Hey guys, havent signed on to the org in months or years... I've owned every gen, 3rd, 4th, 5.5, and 6th... I think I'm ready to step up to a 7th gen but like the OP, unsure of what years to look at or look out for.

Ideally I want every option available but willing to sacrifice rims or spoiler as long as the more important features are there.

Can someone confirm if the CVT from the 2009 is different from one say in 2012

bdubwiley, how about some pics of that beast?
