Looking to add some horsepower
Looking to add some horsepower
I am not the greatest with car engines and such. However, I am wanting to look into ways of adding maybe 50-100 horsepower to my 2011 Maxima. Any suggestions would be great. Car has 41k miles, i believe its around 290 horspower but not sure. Its an automatic transmission and hasnt had anu engine modifications. Also I do not plan on doing the installations myself. But I do want to get some ideas before I go have someone do it for me. So I can make sure I don't get ripped off. Also our performance chips any good?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you bought the wrong car if you wish to modify it and add HP easily and safely w/o destroying the transmission.

Yeah...pretty much a common desire for a lot of folk but realistically not possible. The engine itself is already pretty much at the limit, it IS a powerful engine after all, but it also means there isn't a lot of room for improvement. Forget tuner chips, aftermarket intakes and/or exhausts, underdrive pulleys, and anything else that advertises "bolt on 25 hp" claims.
It ain't happenin'.
The 15% - 30% increase you're looking for is really only attainable via nitrous injection or forced induction; i.e. turbo or supercharging. And while that IS possible, with the right engineering, the CVT transmission in the car simply won't handle it.
IF you really want/need more power...sell the Max and buy an Audi, BMW, or Mercedes.

A K&N air filter can help get more air into the motor so it should be good for a few extra ponies (5-10 if you believe what they say about that filter). Plus you'll never have to replace your filter again, just clean it.
+1 Bificus99, probably the best bolt on for these cars that actually work. did I mention these are for sale now? LOL i'm working with the org now to become a vendor. I've already sold 18 pipes in the FB group.
