I have 09 Maxima with 185000 miles. Check engine light came on after oil change been using synthetic oil 5w30. I changed it again after erasing code aprox 5 times.Code still coming up. I pulled cover off of bank 1 v v t checked magnet retarder 10.5 ohms and cleaned passages installed new solenoid valve.I noticed the retarder would slide outward aprox. 5/32 of an inch by turning cover face down with my hand under the retarder magnet. Is this a problem?

Do you have access to a scanner tool that will read live data?

How does the timing look on b1 vs b2 at idle and different rpms. The Nissan service manual lists a bunch of potential reasons for this code. My experience with other makes usually has to so with a tensioner/chain issues due to lack of maintenance. How is the maintenance history of the car? The acuators are supposed to be sensitive to dirty oil viscosity but I've personally only seen timing codes related to low oil levels, not the type of oil.

The manual says it could be any of the timing related aenaors like crank or cam, debrit on a magnet.
