2009 Replacement Hood

So someone put some minor dents onto my hood which I'm getting tired of looking at. Has anyone purchased a hood off ebay? Are they a perfect match and also should I go with alluminum or steel?

The original hood is aluminum, (I'm pretty sure). Steel will likely add weight. There are probably a lot of Ebay options, so your question is quite vague. If you pointed out a specific hood and seller, then people could offer some feedback. There's also the reviews there on Ebay I would expect could give you a bit of insight.

You still have to get it painted. So let's say aftermarket you're at $300 shipped, OEM you're about $400-$500. Then you're in about $400-$500 to paint just the hood, more if you want blending to the top of the fenders, which I recommend unless you want it to be obvious if there is a color mismatch. You're car is 10 years old, depending on mileage you're looking at a tradin value of about $3000 or less, regardless of the hood dent. Is it worth $1000 to put on a new hood? I could understand if you needed to drop $1000 to fix the AC or replace the starter or alternator...but at some point, unless this is a true hobby car, you gotta forgo the high costing cosmetic fixes and just let it go.

Thanks for the reply. While my car isn't worth much not having to make car payments is a value to me in itself. I'm at 86k at the moment so I should have a few more years left. Hopefully enough time where I can toss it to my son as his first car. In regards to the hood, I'm fortunate enough to know someone who can do the paint job and install for me inexpensively. Since I intend to drive this thing for a few more years I'll definitely be replacing the hood.

I just poked around on EBay, those hoods aren't cheap...depending on where the dent is, might be repairable with one of those paintless dent removal services. A lot of those reputable guys will give a fee estimate, some may do it based on pictures. I'd reach out to them. I'd figure anything under $200 would be reasonable if again, it's an easy fix. Beats the full price for a replacement hood with paint. Other option too would be to color match at a junk yard. But it will be a used hood, may still need paint even if it is the same color, could take a while to find.
