Power Lock question

Just scored a 2009 S. I've always wanted this car but the family, kids and their college got in the way. Anyway it's Dad time now and I've noticed that the drivers door power lock doesn't do anything if the car is off but works when the car is on. Is this normal? Like to prevent you from locking yourself out of the car?

The drivers door power lock should work when the car is off. Both the lock button on the FOB and the lock button on the door handle will lock the car if you are standing outside the car with the FOB nearby. The lock will not work if the key is left in the car. Feature that prevents locking you out. Try disconnecting you neg terminal of the battery for half hour. This will reset the BMC which controls among other things the door locks.
