Alternator issues

Is it possible to receive 2 back to back bad alternators?

Sure, i would recommend getting a different brand. There are always knock-offs or returns put back into circulation without tests. But sometimes misdiagnosis occurs (e
g. not connected correctly, bad wiring, fuse, shorted cell in battery.)

Mavis repaired it and changed the battery. The first time, I left Mavis and drove 3 miles down the road and it shut off right in traffic. I towed it back to them and they said the alternator killed the battery also. Now, I just got it back on Friday and it died again yesterday night. I paid them $1100!!!

I am not familiar with Mavis but i would think they would be ready to stand behind their work. Take it back again and lets hope for the best. Alternators "killing" the battery probably means that yep, the alternator's integral regulator or rectifier was defective. They should in addition to replacing the alternator again also replace the battery for no charge.

It's already towed there. It's just crazy that 2 alternators went bad

It does happen (albeit not frequently.) I am willing to bet the shop manager is going to have a word with their supplier after the holiday.
