Alternator issues

I have a 2010 maxima with only 108,000 miles, it started having issues with the alternator so we replaced it with a brand new one. It’s been good for about 2 months then all of a sudden it shuts off when you try to drive, I have a scan tool and it says the alternator is making insufficient power. I’ve replace the clip on wiring harness but it doesn’t help, any suggestions?

Unfortunately some new parts are junk. Confirm the alternator is defective. If defective, then return it for another one. I assume there is still a warranty considering you've only had it for two months.

Is the alternator replacement really “new” or “remanufactured”? Remanufactured alternators are a hit and miss.

My personal experience: I had my busted alternator replaced with a remanufactured one and it lasted less than a year or 10K miles. Now that I replaced it with a “new” one, it has been 6+ years or >60K miles.

Maxima alternators and radiators are very finicky. If you use aftermarket parts for those 2 items you'll totally regret it. Insist that your repair shop get an OEM alternator from the dealer or you'll continue to have issues. I did this dance with my 03 Maxima 3x's in a month until I told my shop to pay the extra $50 for the OEM part.
